Subject description: Had this before but forgot the sollution.

Hey guys, recently my Final Sun has been giving me a bit of trouble. Now before anything, yes I have reinstalled and done everything you would normally suggest.

For some reason whenever I open Final Sun, when Final Sun finished loading, or creating a map, it will immediately close without warning, instantly. Now can anyone figure out why this is happening? I get about half a second of the screen with a loaded map and them, poof FS is closed.

I tried reinstalling and installing again until it worked. Confused

Do you use Vista or changed anything on your hardware/OS since you last used it and when it worked fine?

Does this happens for TO or on vanilla TS too?

Windows XP and on TO but not regular TS. This used to happen to me a while ago however I fixed it.

I've managed to narrow this problem down to the Rules.ini file, however I can't really understand what area of rules.ini would cause Final Sun to close, on just generating any map, or even just a new empty one.

Ah i remember this now, DCoder sorted it IIRC. Messy rules and such caused it i think.

Care to elaborate? Messy rules as in what? I know list rearrangements aren't great, so I need to actually know what a messy rules.ini is by Final Suns definition.

I've bugged the hell out of DC lately though... TitanmkII mentioned you had to clean up some rules for TO once as they caused Final Sun errors, do you remember what the problem was?

Since rearranged Building-,Vehicle-,Infantry-types and Animations lists are no problem, i suggest looking at the terrain overlay etc lists.

Maybe you changed the order of tiberium, trees, rocks or removed some, which FS now can't find anymore.

I narrowed it down to the BuildingList being the problem. Replacing the New building list with an old one made Final Sun work, so I'm wondering what the problem is.

I recently added a large amount of comments, example

GACNST ; G.D.I. Conyard
GAPOWR ; G.D.I. Power Plant

I thought the addition of all these new comments caused it so I removed all new comments and it still closed. I checked the numbers order and made sure all ID's were fine. Still closes, yet replacing the Building List earlier managed to make this work, so I have no idea what this could be. I have even tried removing a large number of buildings from the list to see if the list was too large for FS or perhaps new buildings were causing errors. Still got the instant close...

The problem was a building of mine named GAYARD. This building had the properties Owner=GDINaval which Final Sun did not like. Adding Owner=GDINaval,Civilian fixed this issue.

Seems final sun has a problem with custom houses.

That's strange
In TI i added the houses NodA and NodB for separate helipads and they work.
The helipads have Owner=NodA,Nod, but the aircraft have only either Owner=NodA or Owner=NodB.
I also added a new house TMF which is used on some buildings with Owner=TMF only.

So i wonder why FS crashed in your case, but in TI it works fine.

Hmm, it is strange, so yeah... however, the naval yard was Owner=GDINaval only, perhaps the settings of the house affected FS.
