if Command and Conquer 95 and Red Alert are freeware what i want to know is why EA haven Relised ;

Command and Conquer DOS,
Command and Conquer Covert operations,
Red Alert Aftermath,
Red Alert Counter Strike,
Sole Survivor,
Dune 2,
and Dune 2000

as freeware?

EA has not interest in them as they aren’t going to make them any money so why cant they relies them as Freeware

C&C DOS/Dune2, wont work on Vista + other OS as full screen DOS isn’t supported any more(no money to be made there so make it free)

the expansions are small files that would take seconds to download and are only a few missions &/or units (why buy when you could download in seconds and don’t change the game much, all Counter Strike was was some changed graphics with new abilities. more could be done in a mod)

Sole survivor can only be played offline with out a special server that is hard to set up due to WW & EA not telling us how to(no money to be made there and the server problem is different rant)

And Dune 2000 is in the same league as RA and C&C95 so why isn’t it Freeware like its sister games....
...it uses the RA engine and is a big part of the C&C series as it helped in the development on Tiberian sun (like Dune2 Helped the Development of C&C DOS)

Merry Christmas Laughing

They are still selling:

- Command and Conquer Covert operations,
- Red Alert Aftermath,
- Red Alert Counter Strike,

at the CnC Saga package.

And I have no clue why the other Westwood games you mentioned aren't freeware.

Well TD/Ra1 can still be bought new... though definately out of all of them the expansions should be released.

Sod that, I was stupid enough to get [The ztyping Dvd] with them all on, legality makes no difference to me, just like customer loyalty obviously means jack all to them.

At first glance, that looks VERY wrong. Last I played Dune 2000, it was like a cross between TD and RA1 in terms of engine. Must be a typo, just like half your post is. Firefox has spell check... Internet Explorer can download Firefox...

They're still selling C&C1 and RA1 in the TFD/Saga pack too, so that's not really a valid point. It's just odd that they release C&C1 and then release RA without releasing the expansion pack which was made in between.

Anyway, my 1.06 patch adds the Covert Ops. Well, just not the videos.

As for DOS C&C, well even WW offered deals to get C&C95 cheaper by trading in your old DOS C&C, so no surprise there. DOS C&C is outdated. The only thing which is (infinitely) better in DOS C&C than in C&C95 is the installer.

they released TD and RA1 for advertising purposes. That is all. No new dune, no dune shareware.

I just got Mozilla Firefox, oh, my, CHRIST, now knowing what I have been missing out on all these years, I feel.... Explorer is just so inferior. By ztype, Revolution, download it already, and put down Explorer. Take it out back for a walk to the middle of the woods, and do what has to be done...

And, uh, yeah Dune 2K definitely used a modified TD/RA1 engine; the scaling in that game was decent.

Well, they can hardly ditch all the TFD or Saga games because the contain 2 freeware games Confused That would be stupid. What they could do is either lower the price, or improve support #Tongue

Well, as Dafool said, C&C1 and RA1 were released for advertising purposes. Unless EA will make a new Dune game (fat chance) they won't ever release any of those.

But that means that we would get TS with the next C&C game - I like that result.

yes in theory we should but its when thay say red alert 2 is freeware we have the problem as up until tiberian sun all expansions are unprotected and for ts and ra2 (and up like generals and renegade) EA will have to make a key jammer. but since ea arent relising the expansions yuris revenge will stay protected and would be useless for online play (i dont know about lan or modem) unless the xwis servers set up no key checks.

abondonware but not freeware (ea still know it excists look at the support site)but i think dune 2/2000 would only become freeware if there was a dune 3/3000 created by EA

edit; oftopic get back on topic
