Red Alert 3 - Uprising expansion pack announced!
Subject description: I'm always late to the party! Specially when there is no surprise.
All rumours about Red Alert 3 Uprising expansion pack seen in the end of the last year are correct and, today, EA has just confirmed the obvious: they are really working on RA3's expansion pack called Uprising. Unlike the original rumours, they are going with a full expansion pack which includes 4 mini campaigns (they didn't use 'mini' for the 9 missions campaign from the original game), some new units for all factions and new game modes. Here's the press release:
Quote:
LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced today that the third iteration of the Command & Conquer™ franchise’s beloved Red Alert™ series is returning with Command & Conquer™ Red Alert™ 3: Uprising exclusively for the PC. An epic single-player campaign expansion, the standalone title catapults players deeper into the Red Alert universe, giving them more of the action-packed gameplay they have been clamoring for, while offering a gauntlet of new and compelling challenges with the new Commander’s Challenge mode. Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising will be available for digital download this March.
"Uprising is a game that in many ways reflects the feedback we have gotten from the Command & Conquer community," said Amer Ajami, Senior Producer at EA Los Angeles. “We’re giving gamers more of what they want – more of the fast, fluid and fun gameplay, more of the story we began to tell in Red Alert 3 and more cutscenes featuring top-notch Hollywood talent. At the same time, we’re excited we’re going to be able to bring new things to the mix, including new units and the Commander’s Challenge, which is a great way for players to hone their skills and get deeper into the combat."
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising takes players into the aftermath of the epic battles in Red Alert 3, with the Soviets still reeling from a crushing defeat, the Empire of the Rising Sun desperately trying to regain both honor and identity and the seemingly victorious Allies finding themselves in the midst of corruption and deceit within their own ranks. In addition to four mini-campaigns, one for each faction and one bonus campaign centered on the origins of the Empire of the Rising Sun’s commando Yuriko, Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising will also introduce the new Commander’s Challenge, enabling the players to test their skills against a set of nine commanders from different territories and difficulty levels in 50 unique challenges with their own special rules and unique conditions.
In true Command & Conquer fashion, top Hollywood talent will be delivering the gripping story in full HD live-action cinematics. Fan favorites Gemma Atkinson and Ivana Milicevic will make their stunning return to the high ranks of the Allied and Soviet leaderships and will be joined by an all new set of stars, who will be announced soon.
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising is a standalone game and does not require Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 to play. This product has not yet been rated by the ESRB, PEGI or USK. For more information about Red Alert 3, please visit www.redalert3.com.
At the moment, EA plans to distribute it through digital means only. Hopefully, it should be available on Steam with other EA games. So, if you don't have a broadband connection, this game isn't made for you. Afterall, the original Red Alert 3 DVD has miserables 6.6gb, where almost 3.8gb are vp6 movies. At least another 2.7gb are game installation files and language related, so you should see have to download a file thatis bigger than 3gb. I trully hope they change their mind about it.
Other than that, check www.redalert3.com for concepts from these new units and much more information about the game. We'll be covering it here in a more modding based way, but the lack of mod SDK for the original game and lack of news about it will certainly be a big problem for us. QUICK_EDIT

Hey EA, how about some new multi-player skirmish game modes like king of the hill or something instead of cloning the game play of C&C General! Also if it doesn't need RA3 to run then how is it an expansion pack? Unless they are planing on doing what Relic did with Dark Crusade. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
i bore [and hate] the early rush game... i wonder why dont they give super gun to mcv if they want to rush player to end the game like that. it very fast furid and err...
and FMV after i saw they do in TW and Ra3 i though even Uwe Boll can do better than this...
if they solve both problem, Ra3 will be the RTS game i looking for. Last edited by Holy_Master on Fri Jan 09, 2009 9:28 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

Its not about speed, its about what countrys or even towns that have not been upgraded yet, still a lot of poor places around the world... QUICK_EDIT
I think the rumor around the c&c official forums is that it is single player only. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

There's also many people with limited broadband, if you can only download 30 gig a month downloading a full game add on is going to be a big chunk of that especially since EA will probably charge double what online stores would. QUICK_EDIT

I like this, though it has the Generals challenge again, but hey it should be interesting for RA3 to have since the AI is coded differently and not just new unit sets like Generals had for the 'new' generals AI's. Anyways, no release of it as a hard disk, if not well that sucks I like having a physical copy of the installer just in case.
It will be interesting to sit back and watch what comes out of this, maybe also they will finish the unit profiles on the RA3 site now
Also after seeing the Battlecast Minute I think we are seeing some version of the Chrono legionnaire again though it looks more like it is a Cryo Legionnaire with some sort of jumpjet on it, but still looks awesome!

Apoc has stated it is their intention to get the unit profiles finished by early next month.
And I put RA3 as my homepage on both IE and FF just because of how much I loved to read the unit profiles. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

I actually liked general's challenge, it has alot of replayablity and I was disappointed it was not in Kane's Wrath. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
I still haven't bought RA3 yet, so I may hold off until this is released. At least I'm all set for digital distribution, I downloaded the RA3 demo at >11MB/s _________________ QUICK_EDIT

Don't even try that. Availability and lack of network upgrades hinders a LOT of people, and even prevents me from keeping up with half of my contacts when downloading things like that. The techs here chose to feed the DS-3 to the pair-gain instead of our remote DSLAM (former is a regional voice line splitter, latter allows broadband service within a 3 mile radius; provisioning speed depends on the backbone and in this case they could have given us a 7Mbps upgrade from 1.5Mbps, but nooooo...). For the sake of avoiding a wall of text, I'll refrain from a lengthy lecture on this subject. _________________

subfactions heal all imbalances (somewhat serious). Give em demo trucks, but replace twinblades with something that can't transport (hind or siege chopter). _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Actually it was, but only in the 360 version. Jesus shit this expansion started fast; 3 months and some weeks after the game was released, and they're already planning an expansion, albeit a download able one.
EA's all about the money; and who can blame them? You? Bah, you've never raised a finger at anyone, you've got no spine, although I can sell you one. Matter o' fact, I can sell it half price. Thats right, you read it right, half price. _________________ Destroy to create. All for the hunt to dominate!
I'd rather have the games now when I'm young rather than later when I am like, old. Since SC@ has been anounced, how many C&C games have been released? TW, KW, RA3. Which would you rather have, those, or the concept art Bliz has released, because really, those are your choices.
I guess there's gonna be skirmish but no MP??? _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Eh. I see your point. But I'd rather have a nicely made good game, rather than an almost piss poor re-imagined version of a franchise that could have been epic.............

If only EA would make games in the same way the PPM members make TI, TO, TFTD, or one of such mods - with more time spent getting things juuuuuust right, and making something that appeals to the wider community.
I'm hoping for a more moddable xpack, because I've got some idea of what to do with it.... QUICK_EDIT

Actually yeah, probably. I was just checking out Afro Samurai Resurrection; Lucy's in it, voicing the new antagonist. _________________ Destroy to create. All for the hunt to dominate!

Yeah. We'd still be waiting for Tiberian Sun if that were the case. QUICK_EDIT
