Well, I may bit of evidence that there is going to be a 4th Faction in RA3. This seams to be the "Fellowship," and I doubt there are leftovers from the Battle for Middle Earth games.

But here's the thing:

The Soviets are WWII-esque, the Allies are Modern Day, and the Imperials are Anime/Future, so what is this "Fellowship?"

Speculate. I found this in Worldbuilder btw.

What, is that it? Didn't BFME come out a while back? So why whould there be leftovers in a 2008 game?

because the engine evovles. There's probably left over code from when they made it in like 1999. It's the "westwood 3d" engine.

Just like the TW stuff leftover in RA3, hidden, unused, but still there.

Of course. the big, experieanced guys come down on top of a poor new guy like me.

And hey, it says in the subject that it is a THEORY. So, for the Fellowship being the 4th faction, I am probably wrong. Theories are theories, after all.

We're not being hard on you Smile, just pointing out that developers are lazy, and some things get left behind - have you seen the RA2 mixes? Wink

not so much lazy, they just have no reason to clean up all the evidence of older games that were on the same engine - I wouldn't blame them at all

they probably calculated what would be more profitable: spending the time to delete unnessecary code or the cost of leaving it there. I guess it was more profitable to leave it there.

Fellowship = BfME

SAGE is garbage, it has a ton of BfME and Generals code left overs, messy messy, would not be surprised to see that in there.

I thought they made it from scratch for renegade or whatnot? But lol, code as old as the series itself. I guess you could say C&C is still in the game's blood.

They are all built from the Westwood Code Library, so they all contain the bases of the westwood code.

Its not things like logics and stuff, mainly file handling and so on, but the same code nether the less.

Laughing That prooves once and for all that despite my bitching RA3 is a full-blooded C&C. I'll be damned... Maybe it doesn't conform to my vision of a C&C, but I guess it still is one, I'll give it that.

Laughing <--- It means he isn't bitching about it.
And I think he's right - It may not be C&C in spirit, but it is in soul.

I don't think that a forth faction will appear - they'd have announced it by now.

In appearance it is not, some of the design elements are questionable, but it hass most of the elements of a Red Alert:
1) Evil Communists
2) Goody-goody western democracy
3) Electricity shooting weapons
4) Comedic plays on the cold war.
Maybe the jokes are too obvious and the insanity a bit far-reaching, maybe I do hate it. But in engine and in essence, much as I loath to admit it, it is a C&C at heart.

It wasn't directed at Albrecht, but at all ppl who keep whining how 'bad' RA3 is in their eyes, but never have played it...

I spoke the truth, from what I see the criticism of RA3 comes from 4 directions:
1) Game style: Some think it's too cartoony
2) Continuity: It don't link to TD!
3) Gameplay: The whole spamming and "fast and fluid" thing.
4) DRM: I hate this too, it's just crap.

I personally see 1, 3 and 4. Although 1,2 and 3 would put MV out of business.

I think the style isn't far off RA2. Of course, they're both pretty far from RA1, which was at least grounded in reality (Experimental weapons and technologies that were never deployed).
The continuity is bad, but so was that of RA2 and YR.
I'm not a fan of the strong weapons, weak buildings/units idea either, but EA just keeps pushing it further and further...
Finally, I got it on Steam so DRM's no problem for me. Smile

I don't really think there's going to be a fourth faction. Any more than 3 and it's difficult to keep things original.

APOC does not visit PPM forums. At least he has never registered here. The only EALA staff who has ever registered and posted here is Mastermind (who also host us in his server), but he wasn't employed by EA when he was in these forums #Tongue

Regarding the 4th faction, as people said above, it looks like leftover from BfME II and it wouldn't make sense in RA3. Perharps they can create another faction later with another name if the game gets a second expansion pack.

I posted this in another forum:

So for factions, you got the communists and the capitalists, which are economic systems, and then you got the *** which are imperialist, which is more or less a foriegn policy. So whats missing? I'd go ahead and say theology. What are your options? Islamic extremists (GLA rip-offs?), some new cult (Nod ripp off?). Then there's always alien invaders. But rather than a scrin rip-off, I think the corny aliens from the 1950's more would much much better. They would provide comic value, and fit the situation in very well. Hmm, what else, I got it! The secret evil organization bent on world domination! SPECTRE or Dr. Evil if you will. I mean c'mon, they've already had a freakin secret volcano lair! But back to political ideologies, there could be nationalists/nativists (china). Infact, the nativist attitude could be applied to South America and Africa and their struggle to overthrow some oppressors (those two continents have little representation in the series as a whole. Sure there have been battles fought there, but no factions are actual FROM there.). What else...secret sea monsters? America suceeds from the alliance? Experimental virus creates an army of hellbent muntant zombies? Dare I say it?...Yuri?

I think the evil organization would be the coolest thing ever.

But if you combine Aliens, Extremists, and Mad world dominating scientists you get a Yuri side, or something very close to him.

New post

that be an interesting synop for a mod.

If they where going to tack another faction, I'd say Yuri's remnants, because his faction was merely brushed upon and yuri himself, his background. I mean sure its RA2/3 and lacks substance and depth. but it can be interesting to expand upon but oh well. doubt that'll happen. :p
