My GDI AI is rampantly building component towers (with heads) off from each other even though I've set BaseNormal=no for the component towers. Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? How do I fix it?

you have made a defensive building for GDI, that has IsBaseDefense=yes, and that doesn't use a component tower. the IsBaseDefense=yes tag will make the AI try to build it. Since GDI AI is hardcoded to ONLY use component towers as defense, they will place an empty component tower, and attempt to place your new defensive building on it, which isn't possible, they'll skip, build another empty component tower, try it again etc etc.

The key is setting IsBaseDefense=no, but now the GDI AI will not use this building. you can still use it, though.

most times this problem occurs the AI will not put upgrades on them(Though I have had it happen before(And I didn't have a new base defense.)) But this still may be fixed the same way.

so does he mean component towers with heads (upgrades probably), or empty component towers ( i told him how to fix that) ?

if he means the first one, he has set to much AIBaseDefenseCoefficent for GDI

Or maybe he just doesn't know how can AI do that trick (you know, the one where in RA1 you could build off flame towers and such, so ppl would build a line of 'em towards your base and ...)?

AI can build anywhere, you know Wink It just builds around itself, leaving AIBaseSpacing between the buildings, probably ignoring Adjacent= as well as every other tag in the rules Smile That's why it could build them off each other...

The AI is building component towers with the upgrades, but I didn't even give the GDI any new defense building with ISBaseDefense=yes..

My DefenseRatio=.35 (does this number exist in a vacuum, or does it take into consideration the other building ratios?), and I've limited the DefenseLimit=30.

Hmm...didn't know AI could build off any building (or anywhere for that matter). I guess I'll just have to live with the AI and his towers right now.

Does adding buildings to the [AI] BuildX (i.e. BuildConst, etc.) actually make the AI build those added buildings?

As an unrelated side question, would it be possible to make the AI build more than 1 war factory and/or barracks?

I think your problem, shrumpster, is that you set the GDI AI base coefficient tag too high. Since you didn't say "component towers with heads off", the problem is not with corrupted component tower upgrades..
