EA has been posting some short videos showing what some of the missions will be like, and thankfully, they are all suppose to be funny.

You face.... giant war bears!

No shit?
I kinda like the idea of unique scenarios, just not so obviously stupid.

Unique? They added only a single "new" feature to each map.

If having giant bears turns the game into a 'joke' then I have just two words for you:

GIANT ANTS

Red alert has always been a Joke,
squids among dolphins, flyin school girls.
cloned Master minds,

All of those except for the last one are ones are form RA 2 onwards and thats not what I'm talking about. I liked the original Red Alert more than any of the others put together and it is definitely the one I have played the most. Anything after the original was indeed a joke.

What really made Red Alert in the first place was it's mix of seriousness and alittle realism mixed with realistic impossible technologies. Unfortunatelly somewhere along the lines they went too far with the impossible technologies and lost that realism aspect.

RA2 onwards is very entertaining to play but can't in essence be called a true Red Alert.

Secret missions FTW! #Tongue

C&C has never been only serius, the first C&C games (RA & C&C1) had a mixture of "serius" and "unserius" moments (Dr. Mobieus, Dinosaurs, Giant Ants, The American soldiers finding Stalin etc.) The Giant Ant missions was a parody of old horror movies you can even hear the projector sounds in the movie when you see the ant queen getting burned. Tiberian Sun is almost like a parody of every Sci-fi movie created before the games release. RA2 is a more unserius version of RA1.

But I think they vent too far with RA3. :/

For those saying "lolol RA was never serious", many other games have humourous moments in a serious atmosphere to lighten the mood. Fallout as an example doesn't take itself too seriously (crashed UFO random encounter, general inserts, etc) and is one of the best games created. If you're inserting humour to lighten the mood, there's a fine line between how much it needs i.e. lighten the mood but still keep consistency with the serious place it's in. It also depends on the skill of the writers too.

RA3 on the other hand is just a gigantic joke, it's not even satire, rather it's something along the lines of Playboy: The RTS mashed with memes and current trends to sell more.

this is a topic obout the challenges in Commander's Challenge, and I pointed out some of them have funny premises. 'Nuff said.

As for Red Alert, I think there were two different groups of people who worked together to make that game. It was the first group that were like "time travel!" asnd inserted all funny stuff based on real life experiements (tesla coils) along with some other stuff (thiefs with capes, giant ants, etc). Then it was time for the second group: the writers and actors who made the story. This later group made the game serious. So in the end you got the game itself (light hearted) and the story (serious).

EDIT: They also showed another one; a map that takes away the build limit on heroes. So you get three enemies that spam dozens of Yurikos, but you get your own share of Tanya's (and Natashas). They also stated what the red alert button will do. All your units will become heroic, and then you get access to your like, emergency stash (which I guess you get by earning credits for winning battles).

The story in Red Alert is nothing stellar, I really don't see the reasons to cry over 'realism' of all things. Removing it (It Came From Red Alert!) simply allows more creativity. Something lacking in a re-packaged C&C 1 with videos...

Though APB is fun as shit. :3

Every thread with EA C&Cs eventually culminate in a bashfest by angsty Westwood Fanboys who can't get over 1997.

I coin this, Volgin's Law.

I coin this egotism. #Tongue
Why not put it under your real name anyways you sneaky bastard? #Tongue
I have no preference for who makes the games. I just have a preference as to the content, as there is a link between the two I have a slight bias, were they to start making RA what it should be I'd give tem due credit and buy it, as it is my friend bought a discount copy of RA3 so I'll leach one of his installs and laugh at it/play only mods.

Thay did that when thay shipped it to the Crapbox 360 and made the RA3 expansion Download only(if i down load an expansion pack i expect it for free or with a viris because it was from a doggy site)

as for the commanders challanges it looks look ... intresting but perhapes it could be quite fun (the ironic thing is if a mod had big bears its ok but if the game/expansion has it its a bad thing)

Mods and official expansions are different things. A company has money and resources and is expected to make a polished product to get more money. A mod team make a mod because they want too; unit resizes are easy as crap; a new unit is harder and can be more original. EA's trying to get on the modwagon, kick the arseholes off before they tip it!
