Hell I thought this thing is for download, this should be moved in the Media Hot.
Now the voxel: It really looks great especially the missiles and it's tentacles. It would be worth for a spotlight. _________________ Awesome banner made by m-.. I mean AltomareXD!
thats because the ra2 game engine voxel rendering and resolution are crappy compare to the os hva editor. Trust me it looks a bit better in game on screen when your actualy using it. This is going to be one of the heaviest (most powerful) units in the game for that side. QUICK_EDIT
Important: We only accept finished and downloadable Voxels here!!!!
IT IS FINISHED I JUST WANTED TO SHOW IT OFF SOMEWHERE AND GET PEOPLES OPPINIONS NOW PLZ GTFO? plus im not gona donate my work to some lowlife lazy mofos who don't even bother to learn something as easy as voxeling.
IF YOU DONT LIKE WHERE THIS IS POSTED .. MOVE IT if your admin, don't complain like a little kid. QUICK_EDIT
I suggest we create a subforum of the voxels section called SHOWCASE, to prevent this from happening. Having to showcase your voxels in the MEDIA HUT, WHERE EVERYTHING ELSE IS ALSO POSTED IS A SILLY IDEA, and THE MEDIA HUT AREA CLUTTERS UP VERY FAST. _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. I agree totally Regulus
Tthis is the best place i though of posting it i wanted to show off the voxel without actualy publishing it as its a part of a mod accet.
Is there really a need to assault me with sarcastic comments instead of some constructive critizism. QUICK_EDIT
why would anyone want to look at voxel work and not download it?
I find that looking at other artist's artwork is a great inspiration for me, and I am sure that creating a showcase forum would be beneficial to all. However, I do think that one rule should be that each member is allowed one topic, so that it does not get cluttered up by multiple voxels by the same artist.
I'm liking this idea more and more. Who's with me that is not a "keep things how they are" douche?
Of course, those who were somehow made into admin will not do these things, and things will remain how they are. Simply because they didn't think of the idea and I did. How sad. Anyone care to prove me wrong? _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. QUICK_EDIT
You're an idiot. You haven't read the thread at all. he said he WON'T release it. That's right, HE WILL NOT RELEASE THIS VOXEL. It's for a mod. _________________ Yes, work on MV continues. It is not forgotten. QUICK_EDIT
If you want your own voxels make em voxeling is generally very straight forward just build the models from ground up bottom layer to top, its what i find the easiest. QUICK_EDIT

It's finished, but not downloadable. It must be finished and downloadable.
Since it's not downloadable, I'm moving to Media Hut. Post your vxl files and I'll change my mind about it. QUICK_EDIT

I don't think anybody really cares for an ePenis sub-forum.

first of all go back to school kid
epenis LAWL most pathetic thing iv heard, This would give a chance for the artist to show off his work, recieve comments for improving his/her work even more and makeing a name for himself so people know who to go to for what
Quit your whineing people and stop hindering others progress or acting like a fool with your useless petty remarks gtfo?!
Seconded. Stop being a douche Regulus and for fuk sakes stop using caps in all of your posts.

All the other cool kids do it. I knew that one would grab some attention.
And I agree, there is a huge potential for people to foster an e-penis. But look at deviant art, there are a lot of people who are just looking for constructive criticism, and I certainly feel that people want an opinion on their work without having to release it.
Anyway, as I have said before, I like the idea, and I like your fresh and artistic take on voxels. I'm dropping out of this topic so don't even bother to reply with something negative directed at me, I won't reply to it, unless its more civilized. I'm not going to participate in a flame war on someone else's topic.
@banshee, I understood what you said on msn, and because it's your decision the defense will change its plea. _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. Last edited by Regulus on Fri Feb 06, 2009 6:00 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

The main Media Hut forum serves that purpose. The only reason it's inadequate is because PPM doesn't sport any pruning or archiving of threads. It leaves the forums convoluted and hard to navigate/find things.
Actually, more than 80% of PPM is "hosted" on the forums which is NOT a good content management system, but that's another argument.

It's just you.

You should know something about your target audience before attempting to insult them. Considering your inability with the English language, I have to assume you're the kid in this situation.

"Making a name for yourself" is exactly what an ePenis is. It's a common term on the internet, but apparently not common enough for you.

I agree. It is rather difficult to find things when people post the questions, contests, and other random yet art related content. That's why the suggestion. On the bad side, it would create more forum clutter, but on the good side it would eliminate the huge burden of media hut clutter, AND give admin a better way of making sure things stay were things belong. I would say that IMO the best way to handle it would be to make two rules for the showcase. 1: One topic per member, and 2: Only hyperlinked images. Photobucket people, its free. I surrender the floor to allow for a constructive counterpoint.
But like I said, Banshee somewhat dismissed the idea, so no real point of continuing this conversation.
@Arikado
lol I didn't catch that in my proof-reading. I'm generally pretty good about it. *Lightning edit* _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. QUICK_EDIT
The actual reason why i posted here is because i expected the target audience to be a mature helpful and a artistic community. Instead of people helping me or directing me in the right direction they start complaining wich in my oppinion is a sign of stupidity and arogance. Try putting yourself in the shoes of another person and considering what their outlook would be like.
If your so wise about the internet icy you should already know the fact that people from all over the world use it and many of the people would not be native english speakers. Just because I dont speak/write/type spot on gramatically perfect english all the time im a kid? i really love your analysing ability
As for your ePenis icy im not into internet slang and mostly ignore it for its redicolus outlook on things. I have seen the term before but i never expected anyone above the age of 17 to take notice of it or start using to actualy make a point.
Anyway i hope the rest of the comments follow the actual topic and not the flame. Thanks to everyone else who actualy contributed. QUICK_EDIT

You don't know PPM then.

You set your location to "middle of nowhere". Explain how that is useful so others know you're not a native English speaker.

The age of the user has nothing to do with the meaning and usefulness of the word. Your expectations are ill placed.

Why do you consider this exchange to be flaming? Have you been insulted in some way?
Now then, on-topic: You're planning and working on a TC for RA2 or Yuri's Revenge. A commendable idea considering 99% of the mods in the community are remakes or fan-sequels/prequels.
The unit itself would probably look quite a bit better had it been modeled in a 3D program like 3D Studio Max and exported using 3ds2vxl. The shapes used are quite complicated for the auto-normals feature of VXLSEIII. So it's a bit difficult to make out the shape of the unit in-game.
About TCs: Have you looked into everything you'll be changing? ...and how big is your team? I have my own TC that moved from RA2 to RA3 because of the inherent limitations of the RA2 engine which not even Ares will cure. Point is, good luck, you'll need it. _________________
thread has some fail.
Most notable how my stating the forum rules, got DaRTzO crying out, calling people kids, and thought the following debate as flame (because thats what you do when you don't get your way?)
As for a new forum, its unnecessary.
"keep things how they are" is the way to go.
Please, people, don't spam. At least, not too much, please.
Ontopic: I like this voxel. Reminds me of a centipede, so... why not have it with a HVA animation, having it moving those "feet" it has on its sides? It could be a great effect. _________________ Oh god how did this get here I am not good with computer. QUICK_EDIT

The unit is not a walker mech its a hover mech. The "feet" were just added for the looks if they were to serve a actual purpose it would be to keep the unit stable on ground incase the hover engine failed.
From what i have seen voxel models dont look THAT much better if their modeled in a different 3d application plus i lack the knowlege or experience with 3d modeling software such as blender or 3d max. The actual models would look better in 3d but once converted to voxel i fail to see a siginificant difference also i find it much easier to make sure the voxel layout is even in all of the components by working in VSE3.
i agree about the auto normals thats why i would like to find a proper tutorial on normal editing .. the one posted on this sites main page wasnt very useful.
yes i have looked into everything i am changing and i know how to modify most aspects of the game. If i dont know how to do some part i'll just learn
My team? Does it always have to be a team? I can do everything myself and style it to exactly what i want it to look like sure its gona take a while but meh. I also plan to make the actual mod into a stand alone game when the project is finished.
I dont think im going to move the mod to any other engine because i love the style of game play and speed the ra2 engine provides, i am yet to see a 3d engine that provides an high speed rts experience.
By the way im also a pro ra2 player if anyones up for a game let me know.
Edit: funny looking mod icy i laughed when i saw the units

Well, making 3d models and then converting into voxels is work-intensive, you have to fill it and fix your normals then (because 3ds2vxl converts just thin layer). It's better to use VXLSE_III for me when I want just voxel (and some cameo), if I want use it later or render it, etc., making 3d model is better then...
And I like this voxel, it's unusuall and futuristic. _________________

Nice voxel, the remap should be 2 lines thick so it doesn't break like that. Also change the engine output color to yellow or something so it stands out more when playing blue. You should try to shade/highlight it with some dark grey so it has some contrast with the black and adds more detail.
the voxel forum is for down loadable finished voxels. seeing that you have been here since 2006 you should have known that.
3D RTS don't have any detail like 2D, 2D can have way more detail. And IMO takes more skill
BTW uploading to the site is so useful _________________ Last edited by Roadwarrior on Tue Mar 31, 2009 2:51 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
