Firstly, hi everybody. Thought I'd register and ask this question since it's been driving me absolutely *insane* for the past few days.

The tiberium settings in rules.ini, where it says the SpreadRate and SpreadPercentage stuff doesn't seem to make *any* difference in-game.

Heres what it's set at right now.

GrowthRate=1 ; minutes between ore (Tiberium) growth

; This is green tiberium. It grows and spreads quickly and is not explosive
[Riparius]
Name=Tiberium Riparius
Image=1
Power=4
Value=50
Growth=1500
GrowthPercentage=.15
Spread=1500
SpreadPercentage=.15
Color=NeonGreen ; **WARNING**: If you change this color, notify Bret_a

; This is blue tiberium. It grows and spreads slowly and is explosive.
[Vinifera]
Name=Tiberium Vinifera
Image=3
Value=40
Growth=5000
GrowthPercentage=.05
Spread=5000
SpreadPercentage=.05
Power=100 ; 10
Color=NeonBlue ; **WARNING**: If you change this color, notify Bret_a
Debris=CRYSTAL1,CRYSTAL2,CRYSTAL3,CRYSTAL4

I've been literally changing every option relating to tiberiums growth in the entire ini file, but absolutely nothing seems to be making a difference. I once changed the tiberium spread rate/percentage in SunEdit2K, and so far that has been the *only* way for me to increase it's growth. Simple notepad editing of rules.ini isn't working for me.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Hey there!

Wonderful! I'm here before any smartasses arrive and start "bashing the new guy" because "he's using SunEdit2K". #Tongue

Anyhow, your problem is SunEdit2K, the fact you're using it. It may allow you to quickly edit stuff without too much knowledge of the ini's, but trust me, in the long run you're much better off without it.

I recommend you get Textpad. Smile

It's a million times better than notepad or windows for ini editing and it's much more stable when loading bigger files (such as in RA2).

SE2K has the annoying habit of cutting out most alterations some of the core settings of TS, or "advanced" stuff such as editing Tiberium's properties, adding voxel debris, whatever.

So, to summarize: SE2K = bad, Textpad = awesome. #Tongue Laughing

Have fun and don't be afraid to ask questions about manually editing the ini's, it may seem awkward for a day or two, but you'll quickly find yourself binning SE2K. Wink

I'm not using SE2K right now, I was saying that I had used it in he past and found it worked. Right this second now I'm only using Notepad and such.

When I used SE2K, tiberium growth worked fine. Using notepad it didn't.

Explosive power, yes. It's for when you blow up a harvester, the power is per bale of tiberium.

Set it to 1000000000000000000000000000000 and see what happens when you blow up a harvester.

@NX
welcome aboard.

first let me explain how the keys work afaik
Growth= the time that has to pass before it grows to the next stage.
GrowthPercentage= the chance at which it grows when the Growth time has been reached
Both together give some kind of random growth.
If you set
Growth=1000
GrowthPercentage= 1.0
each tiberiumpatch would grow to the next stage every 1000 ingame time steps (900 is afaik one minute in reality on the medium speed setting)
To avoid that all patches grow at the same time, GrowthPercentage is used.

The same is true for Spread= and SpreadPercentage=.
Except that it defines here the rate at which new tiberium patches are spawned.

However, tiberium can only spread (create a new patch) if the patch is fully grown. Thus you can't have a fast spreading but slow growing tiberium.

Now to your problem.
1. Make sure the rules.ini you edit is in the TS folder.
2. Take an original rules.ini (extracted from tibsun.mix), because sunedit could have messed up the rules.ini
3. If you change Growth=100, Spread=100 and both percentages to 1.0, i'm sure you'll notice a difference. (It should grow/spread very fast) If not it can be only that in the map which you use for the test, are already different settings for the tiberium. Or the map has so much tiberium already placed, that the game refuses to create more (Tiberium sometimes stops to spread if there is already very much tiberium on the map)
4. also never load a savegame, but start a map from the beginning. Else the rules.ini settings won't be used, because they are stored in a savegame so it wouldn't use the new settings.

That actually helped loads, thanks. I had the percentage down far too low, it was spreading by one cell every 1100 ticks, setting it to 1.0/2.0 has sped things along enough for my liking. Thanks all.

I never knew GrowthPercentage was a chance instead of how much it grew. Thanks LKO!
