Some time ago, VK gave me a link to his own custom version of FA2. Does anyone have that version? Send it on PM if you don't want anyone to know you have it Wink

Is it that one you used to make that gigantic map, Ice World?
I've been forever wondering how you surpassed the FA maximum dimensions.

Why not make it public to everyone?

The VK version has all his personal fixes in and lets you create bigger maps IIRC...

VKs FA2 could create 400x400 maps
VKs XCC Mixer could open any mix, even if it was locked/protected

The XCC thing is easy enough for a programmer, XCC is pickier than the game on what mixes it reads, leachkiller screws up some stuff at the start and makes XCC go "Woah! I an't touching this!", the game is less picky and reads it properly anyways, so he probably just changed the reading method. I'm no expert, but then again I'm no programmer so I wouldn't know specifics.

Want that map editor though....

Iceworld is my map, yeah. But notice this: Any FA can open IceWorld (I think), but you need FA VKed to create the map at those sizes. And the map size can never be more than 512 length+hight. Thats why 250x250 might go, and 400x50 does work. If anyone knows the YRM map format, they could create a couple of "dummy maps", at 200x250, 50x400 and so on. And you are all free to "clear" my map, and use it as a base.

I done this to FinalSun, its just a limit check in the program. Though i never tested my map, FinalSun allowed me to work on a 450x450.

SMIFF is right, huge maps tend to mess up the AI's path findings and even your unit commands, but this doesn't happen on plain maps, but it does tend happen when there are plenty of cliffs in the layout.

250X250 is to big. you need to keep the total under 500. They may open in FA2, But they will crash ingame. Try 248X248, I have a map I'm working on thats 100X399.

Ah, Tunnels and Messy (new skool) cliff layouts annoy the game as much as Generals hates Walls.

i do 500 all the time. i even made a 250x250 map. as i said it depends on the computer. some peoples computers even crashes on vk's special map... which isnt special anymore :/ 500 is the highest period. so i do 100x400 all the time. small square maps are boring. so i make them long xD

my uncle played around with the numbers before you posted, but he couldn't get a 250 by 250 map, though he was about to duplicate vk's 150 by 250. i tried 247 by 247 and nothing, i guess i will have to wait for an editor to be created or just settle for 200 by 200 maps
