one of the major flaws with YR is the population limit, or lack there of.

Is there any good methods out there for population control in this game, whether it be in the form of a cap or some other obstacle that prevents building.

I have tried build limit on certain popular units but that doesn't seem to help, nor stop out of control population. I was thinking of a script in a map but after looking at the scripting options I am given I am not too hopeful.

So again, does anyone know of a good method for population control in this game?

FWIW I am working with NPatch.

A very good method: don't make any. If you want population limit, go and play Age of Empires #Tongue

Thanks, Dutchy. #Tongue

Is this a problem with human or AI players, or both?

AI will ignore buildlimits on units, that's one thing...

Yeah, that's what I was thinking of.
Is it possible to make the AI obey the same rules as those of the human players, Dutchgamer, O AI coder?

If you have a unit with a buildlimit of 1, you can only have 1 team with this unit. This makes the game rather boring because it's predictable Wink

sorry, I should have specified. I rarely play against the AI, i play more against my friends. I don't care about the AI, I just want to control the human aspect.

Doesn't Buildlimit=500 work? (It's been ages when I last opened an .ini)

Lt Albrecht: If you have nothing intelligent to contribute, then go away.

Blueguard: BuildLimit, as far as i know, can only be applied to tanks, infantry and planes. Unless this can be applied to the general section, i dont think it will help much. Also this only will allow 500 of every unit on the map so thats still way to many guys.

There is no way apart from some sort of massive limit in cash, which would be a 1 time only kinda thing, have each unit cost however many "people" it takes up, loads of scripting required.

He said any GOOD methods. Increasing female literacy appears to be far more effective than the one child policy for example :p

Or you could make like a last man standing type of deal. Use the negative number approach, like say
[APOC]
BuildLimit=-20
[SREF]
BuildLimit=-20
Russians build 20 apoc and Allys build 20 Prism's and so forth. thats all ya get, guess its who ever knows how to battle the best will win Razz

No, it means in RA2/YR that this unit can only be constructed 20 times by one player before it is removed from their sidebar and made unbuildable for the rest of the game.
