I just got brand new (free!) security software to upgrade my security situation.

It is now comprised of:

Encrypted wireless router (WPA2 and AES)
Avira Anti-virus (Free and kickass!)
Comodo Internet Security (Also free and kickass, carries the Comodo firewall)
NoScript (for Firefox)
AdBlock Plus (I got it earlier but it's still here)

Additional ideas I am thinking of:

SuperAntiSpyware (needs scheduled for free edition, real-time protection requires money)
ThreatFire (if and only if it runs well with Avira)
Malwarebytes' Anti-malware.

I got most of these from reading reviews and snags from PCWorld's 101 Fantastic Freebies and some of the related shit in the area.

Just one note of oddity. For whatever reason, RockPatch and ExceptChecker were flagged as security issues despite their source being a legit (and relatively secure) site. The launcher exes and ExceptChecker were quarantined as part of the repair. (I didn't notice them in there until I had looked through the logs) Perhaps I need to let Renegade know some security tools frown upon stuff hosted on renegadeprojects.com.

Confused I had this one and it ended with collision with antivirus (because Comodo brought something else to Firewall)...

BTW, don't forget on HijackThis and so...

Comodo comes with an antivirus and anti spyware setup as well as internet security. You can disable them if you like.

How reliable? Never had a virus, gets rid of spyware easily and scans twice (to catch viruses that "jump" from a file that's not been scanned to one that already has). Doesn't conflict with anything, you just hit a few settings and BAM your game/app can make an outgoing connection or an ingoing one or both, you have "installation mode" for when you want to install (it says "program rsdgherah" is trying to (blah, install related)" and hives you the option to set comodo to installation mode). It then asks you if you want to change it back after you're done.

Let's just say that most paid firewalls are blown away by Comodo. It's been two days and I love it.

It needs training for the first time something runs, but it works excellently.

Ugggh...

At least you don't run a network, its a nightmare to run a network with that stuff.

Regardless, not bad overall. Razz
