I've been designing plans for a new mod, and I'm trying to get started.

For those of you who remember me, I am the person who was given an "information dump" a few months ago.

Right now, I've been digging through ModNC, the tutorial vault, and the internets. All that I have found are things that assume you have intermediate skill level.

I've read through the INI files. I can infer what most of the settings mean, but to me, they're just hanging joints; they don't connect.

Anyone have any tutorials on the basics? Such as unit construction, modification, etc. so I can dig in on the technical stuff?

BTW: Are the units a collection of several pixellated drawings? Or are they actual 3d models?

Disregard the poster above me. Do NOT get TibEd. Open up the rules.ini / rulesmd.ini and read the comments. They're pretty good at teaching you how the game works.

If you need a basic tutorial, it's best to look in the tutorials factory again.

Voxel (Volume Pixel) objects, are just 3D pixels, there a type of 3D model, but you can give them much quality, or if so, very limited.

Most of us I imagine looked at what was already in the game, how it was named and structured and basically inferred what would happen when we changed something, tried it and looked to see if what actually happened matched our predictions. With the mix editor and the ini files alone you should be able to figure out all the basic stuff. How do you think it was done back in the day when we didn't have tutorials? Kids these days...

I pretty much learned on my own (probally why i still suck) but the best way to learn is from your own experience.

The more you try, the more you learn. I have done it for TS/RA2 modding, and now I'm doing it again for Generals modding. Always remember to keep backups in case you do something wrong and the whole game crashes Wink
