Google Chrome OS

Three days ago Google announced they are workng on an Operating System based on Google Chrome.

I suppose the systems languages will be web based such as html and xml and such

So, is this win?

I don't think that Chrome can compete with both Windows and Linux,
because Linux is free, and Windows is industry standard.
Chrome's market is diminished because of this - who is there who will not buy Windows or download Linux? Only Mac users, and they don't count. #Tongue

Google actually have deals with netbook-making companies like HP, Acer and Asus. I can see this taking off in the netbook world because Google is a well-known name nowadays. It's exactly the push needed to bring Linux to the masses. Linux has everything but major commercial backing so this can only be a good thing.

People won't actively seek out and install another OS unless they're very computer-proficient, it'll only take off in the same way Windows keeps going: by people buying it preinstalled.

the thing is, microsoft has the companies in a legal binding that pretty much says if the computer is sold in stores or advertised, it has to be windows. anything sold through a website can have either on it or nothing at all. else they pay a fine of like a million or so dollars
Dell has preinstalled linux computers and I think HP does to.

Microsoft have a sort of agreement with vendors. Basically, if they put Windows on ALL of their PCs, they get massively discounted cost for Windows. If they sell PCs with a different OS or with no OS at all then they have to pay more for every copy of Windows they buy off Microsoft. Pretty nice business. That's monopolies for you.

Hi all...

Google going to complete the operating system by 2010. Currently i am using Window XP, i am going to change it by 2010 with Google Chrome.

XP ftw! Cept I've disabled a lot of the stuff that makes Vista the way it is on my one Vista machine (the other two have XP). And no, I didn't want Vista on that computer, it just came with it.

A Google Chrome OS though, huh? If its anything like the browser, it will be ridiculously bloated, and suck up all the ztyping resources of a computer. I bet it will be trash.

Mircosoft will never die because they control DirectX, which is far better than OpenGL IMO, as I've programmed with both. I just wish Windows would come out with an OS that isn't designed for complete retards who can't turn on a computer without a tutorial. Unless you turn it off. VISTA will be a permission whore. YES I WANT TO RUN MESSENGER, if I didn't, I wouldn't have ztyping clicked on it.
