I started making some new water for my mod, but the editor is not keeping the original image. Do I need to make a palette for it? and if so how do you do that? here are some pics of how it should look and how it ends up. Also while im here how do I change the lighting to make it a little darker for higher elevations?

Well for one thing your tiles aren't the right angle for the game.

alright, check this. my map is temperate, so by default the terrain uses isotemp.pal right? but there isnt quite enough blues in isotemp.pal so i made my own 120 shades of blue palette and called it water.pal It makes my water look awsome, But.... it wont use it for some reason and i saved it with the water.pal and have the palette in the same expand.mix file with the water tiles. this is happening alot, almost everytime i make something new, the colors are all screwed up ingame. what the hell am i doing freeking wrong?

You can't just "make" a new pal, you can only override the original isotemp.pal with an edited version. Sorry but the game is very limiting when it comes to colours you just have to work with what you've got.

As for making higher elevations darker, use negative light posts in FA2.

I use this to see if the tiles are of a good size.

Yes, so you'll need to adjust them so they don't use those colors.

Basically if you want to change one thing you have to change everything...

So, am I absolutly stuck with using isotemp.pal for my water? Cause if so then my quest for realistic water is dead.... Sad can't I use another palette that is in the RA2.mix?

Well, I have observed this before. It rounds the number you put in to a multiple of 4 (for better compression I'd assume).

It is nothing to worry about however, a change of 3 max for any colour is barely noticeable.

Believe it or not, it did have a huge impact on my water. just by it changing just a couple numbers + or - really changed the outcome alot. But I compensated and added a few more numbers to the colors so it would round itself off at what I wanted. so instead of like #173 I put #176 which in turn it forced itself back to #173, and the results are good Razz I dont understand the logic behind palette editor doing this, but it needs to be fixed IMO.

You have to change the colors then hit the Edit Color button then save Razz

I did do that, it automatically switches the numbers. like MT said- It rounds the number you put in to a multiple of 4 (for better compression I'd assume).

Huh, It doesn't do that for me, or it does but it doesn't change the color much so I don't notice it.

it's probably not noticable on most of the other stuff, but isotem.pal has such few blues, and my water is stubborn, it was very noticable. on a couple of the new blues i put in it would change the color number sometimes by 4, so if i put in 175 it would end up 171 -> 4 shades lighter, so...
