Subject description: A POSSIBLE NEW WAY TO MAKE SUPERWEAPONS WITHOUT CHANGING EXISTING ONES

HEY SO THIS IS MY FIRST POST ON PPM SO PLEASE BE NICE,

I HAVE BEEN PLAYING AROUND WITH WAYS TO MAKE NEW SUPERWEAPONS AND HAVE COME UP WITH A POSSIBLE SOLUTION. I HAVE CLONED THE ICBM LAUNCHER TO MAKE IT A SUPERWEAPON LAUNCHING PLATFORM.

WHAT I HAVE DONE IS GIVE THE ICBM A PRIMARY WEAPON FOR TARGETING BUT IT HAS TO DEPLOY TO FIRE. IT HAS THE SAME PRIMARY WEAPON ONCE DEPLOYED INTO GAICBM. THE WEAPON RANGE IS 150 SO IT CAN TARGET JUST ABOUT ANYWHERE ON THE MAP, JUST LIKE A REAL SUPERWEAPON. TO EMULATE WEAPON RECHARGE TIMES, THE UNIT CAN ONLY FIRE ONCE BEFORE SELF DESTRUCTING, THIS ACHIEVED BY THE WEAPON HAVING AN EXPLOSION ANIMATION [SIMILATING A MISSILE TAKE OFF] THAT DEALS 1500 DAMAGE, ENOUGH TO DESTROY THE LAUNCHER. THE WEAPONS I HAVE MADE SO FAR USE THE CHEMMISL PROJECTILE AND HAVE VARIOUS EFFECTS. DAMAGE IS DEALT USING AN ANIMLIST ATTACHED TO THE WEAPONS WARHEAD WITH HAS BEEN MODIFIED TO HAVE A DAMAGE AND DAMAGE RADIUS SETTING.

CURRENTLY, I HAVE REPRODUCED THE VAPOUR BOMB, CATALYST MISSILE AND SEED MISSILE FROM TIBERIUM WARS WITH SOME SUCCESS. I HAVE ALSO CLONED THE GAS MISSILE TO BE FIRED FROM ONE OF THESE PLATFORMS, LEAVING THAT SUPERWEAPON SLOT OPEN FOR A BRAND NEW ONE. I AM CURRENTLY EDITNG THE CHEMSPECIAL TO BE A LIQIUD TIBERIUM STRIKE WITH IMMENSE POWER BY USING FOR DIFFERENT AIRBURSTS TO COVER A LARGE AREA.

I WILL UPLOAD WORKING CODE AND EXAMPLES ONCE THEY ARE FINISHED. AND BY THE WAY, IF ANYONE CAN SUGGEST A BETTER METHOD FOR THE CATALYST MISSILE, PLEASE DO. IT ONLY DETONATES TIBERIUM 50% OF THE TIME AND I CANT FIGURE OUT A WAY FOR IT TO DO EXTRA DAMAGE TO TIBERIUM BASED UNITS.

actually nothing new to me. Just a combination of known techniques.

A selfdestructing unit with a long range weapon is imo not a good replacement for superweapons. Since it has to be build, thus blocking any other unit construction. In addition isn't it as fast available as the sidemenu superweapons, since you have to find the unit (sometimes in a fight it could be too long), deploy it and then select the right target.

If i'm not mistaken do chemical missiles and cluster missiles fired from a unit, also follow the target. And a homing SW missile defeats the purpose of choosing the target well and you also don't have to care about the time the missile needs to reach the target.

So my final comment: It isn't an emulated superweapon, but only a different special unit.

Unless you change around warheads, freeing up one warhead, and giving this one exculsively to the tiberium based units. Then on the SW's warhead make the verse for the warhead you gave to the tib units, to a higher percent, like 200% for double damage. But then this causes yet other problems, magnified because TS has so few (five IIRC?).

concrete armor wasn't used very much. iirc only by 1-3 units/buildings. It's quite easy to use this exclusive for special units as i did it already in my personal mod long time ago.

Though imo this whole topic should be moved in the normal modding forum. It's no new research at all and we have already several "SW cloning/editing" topics.

I've started a research on emulated superweapons eons ago and I gave up on them, I don't remember why anymore.

Anyway, yea, what is suggested in this topic is not really new, so I'm following the advice from Master LKO and moving it to TS Editing.


In a short note to CMB1988, in the whole world wide web, words fully written with the capital letters were conventioned as a way to shout at others, which is considered agressive. If you wanna shout at others, you use the caps, but, since on 99.9999% of the cases, you don't need to shout.

if you wanna go down that path you could just make a building with a weapon that fires the SW weapons, and ofcourse only does it like once every 3 mins or whatever you want the timer to be, obviously that would mean that the weapon would auto fire, but it would be closer to a true SW

We don't. It is a retarded way to write this language, same goes for "leet speak". Not only that, but it makes difficult for people to a) take you seriously, b) read what you're writing without getting a headache.

You appear with a solution that has existed for a long time, you shout (caps = shouting). You're not getting shit, you're getting what comes naturally. If I decide to switch the letter 'x' with the letter 'e' to make things look funnier for example, then people will comment about that because it's not a normal thing to do. This is nothing like "I'm just different, accept it!", this is more like "I WANT to be different and am going to BE different. There is no escape, you guys will have to accept me!".

CMB, don't get these people wrong, writing in all caps is looked down upon, muh like it would be looked down upon to say "feck you, you old wrench" to an old lady. Where would we be without standards? SomxhoW I rxallY don'T thinK it'D worK. #Tongue

CMB, relax. People just like stuff that they can read easily. If you want to put all your posts in dark blue (not neon blue, someone called destiny did that.... Headache inducing Sad) I don't think that would be too bad; but to be honest you've got a signature with a 600x200 size limit and an avatar to help identify you and your posts mate. Nice try with the emulated superweapons, especially if you thought it up yourself Wink.

My bad. thought all you guys were just picking on the new guy. but thats obviously not the case. See, no more caps, I conform to your standards. The self destructing ICBM was an orginal idea of mine, just didn't know that it was a combination of already used techniques. As I said I am a newbie. Thanks for the idea of using armour types [concrete,heavy etc] for the extra damage for the catalyst missile, i had not though of that. Hopefully, there will be no more negativity and I will try to come up with something a little more original or inventive to submit. Cheers. Wink

Hmm...if one has enough time to give the unit a control group, it might work as a sub, but still...it's a hassle compared to clicking a button and clicking somewhere else again #Tongue

1 idea is instead of having it self destruct, just set the time between firing to an absurdly high number (so reload time=whatever the recharge on super weapons is). Then set a build limit of 1 and have it cost something reasonable (a little less the the NOD Missile silo is my suggestion, since I'm guessing it doesn't have as much armor, and you have to take up the vehicle build queue to make it)

However, I need to make a unit self destruct in my mod. How do you put that in? (1500 damage to self would do that nicely)

Keep an eye on the post date, it's an old topic that just got bumped.. It may have been best to start a new topic.
I see you're new so I l'll let it slide.

The best way to make a self-destruct fire is to add damage to the firing anim. When a unit fires and you see a muzzle flash, that's the anim.
Look in art.ini and find that animation, add Damage= and the amount of damage you want the animation to do each time it plays.

This is all IIRC, I haven't done anything like this myself before. I'm not sure if you need a warhead or not for this..
