Need some help here...

Alright, some of you may know it, but I have a massive virus infection on my pc. Don't ask me how I got it, nor give me advice of what tools to use, as I've tried many already.
I now use a Kaspersky Rescue CD. This cd is an anti-virus program that runs before Windows can load, with the function to kill all viruses, including the one that may be starting with Windows.
Here's my question: how long does it take to do this? I mean, it's on 1% for three hours now, and doing some calculation this means I can use my pc again after 10 days >_>

so if I understand you right, on the computer that you have virus on are you trying to install an antivirus tool?

Then the anwser will be that the virus is blocking the installantion and it will never finish. This happend to me and many other people to.

No, you got it wrong. Clicky. This is what I am using now, and I want to know if it's always that goddamn slow or if something is wrong...

Well, I have had virus so many time(even so I always have the best anti virus tools) and I have learnd that there is no way to remove them. Virus alaways infect svchost.exe and other system files that cannot be removed. They spread and become more and more.

Great. If I was that positive as you I would have lost all my data on my pc and on my external HDD (which is also infected). Thanks for your help Rolling Eyes

Just be patient. If it's that bad, just find a way to clean your External HDD and back your stuff up onto it. Then reformat.

Unless you're willing to be patient and let that AV program slow-clean the HELL out of your computer. 10 days is better than never, eh?

Well, I found out that it was stuck: all of a sudden it jumped to 23%, and as I speak it's about 55% (after 15 hours). Seems it is doing it's job...

Good. You're getting there. If it's going at a nice slow pace, then you're probably getting cleaned. Or you have too many files.

AV apps don't usually hang. It depends on what its scanning at the time you're watching, and since its a boot CD scanner, updating the progress meter is probably not that solid. If say, you went 2 days at 1%, you could assume that it's not working or it's found something heinous and it needs to clean it.

Well, it did work in the end. I'm writing this from the PC I scanned, and it seems it's finally virus-free...
