The Mastodon was inspired in the Mammoth Mark II, unit from Tiberian Sun.

What dumb swarm did I attract...

Obviously, like Banshee kindly pointed out, the unit is based on the TS Mammoth Mark II, not some fan-made BF2142-esque mech.

Of course it is the Mammoth MK II and they renamed it only to have again a Mammoth MK I ingame like in Tiberium Wars. (2 units named Mammoth would be too confusing I think)

What "early unit"? The thing linked by the thread starter is a BF2142 Riesig battle walker buttraping another Riesig in 3Dsmax.

They already did. It's in KW and it's called the MARV. When it comes to thinking up big clunky oversized vehicles, EA's always one step ahead.

Going by your comments sofar I'm going to assume you havent played Tiberian Sun, heres the TS unit that the Mastodon is meant to be the upgrade of:

Also I would like to note, that the 4 legged walker you linked to is a modified Battlefield 2142 model, so technically EA owns that model/design anyway Laughing

Here's the real Mammoth MK II of C&C 3:

Too bad the GDI Mechanic (can be seen from map editor,like the picture)wasn't put in the game,he could have done wonders...maybe.
I wish I could revive it,but I can't even make a model for RedAlert 1 lol.

Note: the titan from TS can be seen the same way,through a dead body in the map editor.
