Ok,so my laptop has only 160 GB.The problem is that my laptop gets filled with stuff pretty fast, and most of the stuff is stuff which I need,so I have the next options:

1.Copy the stuff on DVDs
2.Copy the stuff on a external HD
3.Copy the stuff on a new HD,which will replace the one I have now.

Opinions?

1) would be a nice solution if you only need to free up a bit (like >50GB).
It is a pain to go searching so put only the stuff you don't need for a while on them.

3) Is a better, more long term solution. get one with much more space.

Finally, consider RAR'ing old files you don't need. It helps considerably.

RAR is useless,I doubt that it "magically" compresses stuff. It has to use some memory somewhere...

Here's a tip: stop downloading porn. I have a 120GB laptop drive with 68GB still free. You have no excuses.

Besides, laptops make horrible desktop replacements. They don't have the capacity to work as one.

what in tarnations are you using or that you "need" to use that requires you to use up 160 gb. On average todays programs only need like 1-4 gb for install. I'm not saying that you don't, but to me it's unlikely that you use all your programs. there has to be a few that you rarely access that are just sitting around taking up space. Unless your downloading tons of movies and games and saving them to your hard drive then I just dont see the reason why your "needed" programs take up that much space. But to the main topic I guess External HD would be best option for you so files on externalHD can be immediatly accessible for you.

And,no,there's absolutely NO PORN AT ALL on my comp.

then I would recommend a second "Internal HDD". Majority of com's are equipt to handle 2 or more internal HDD. get a high volume one and use it to install your games, storage, or whatever. I believe if you do that you have to set the Primary to master and the Secondary to slave.

Only with IDE drives, but laptops all use SATA now and most laptops do not have a second hard drive bay.

They do, however, have USB and, in most cases, Firewire. If you want an external to act as internal, you need Firewire. USB is not nearly fast enough.

Well the best option for you would be a portable hard drive, anything from 500GB to 1TB should do the trick and they are fairly cheap these days too.

QFE.

I have a <80 GB hard drive and I still have 20+ able to be filled.

Then again, my computer is like ancient. (6 years old as of next summer)

Get an external. I think there's one with a TV-out so you can listen stuff there.

When I first saw the thread, I thought he was talking about GameBoys... Sad
