3DS Max wicked crashes
Subject description: When attempting to apply texture to model
Using killakanz tutorial on modelling basics, I attempt to follow the first steps of exporting involving texture application. The tutorial asks you to change the material type to W3D after which you must check the 'Stage 0 Texture' ticker box and then choose a texture by clicking the 'None' button directly under that.
Or, atleast I assume thats what its for. I have'nt been able to get past that point. After ticking the 'Stage 0 Texture' box I click the 'None' button and 3DSMax freezes. It stays frozen until I try to close the Mat Browser and then crashes. Has anyone else had this issue?
Due to past headaches and their subsequent resolution I have learned to assume that its something I've messed up but I keep changing things and reinstalling software and sleeping on it. It would suck to be unable to export these models I've been working on for the past eight thousand years.
I don't have a use for all of them but perhaps I can make them available for folks that can't afford 3DS or don't ike modelling.
A little hellp please.

Summary: don't use W3D ever, that part of the Killkanz tutorial is misleading, has is EA's inclusion of the predator with a W3D material in the sample art pack.
Always use a Direct 9 material, all you need will be found in the 3ds Max x\maps\fx\CnC3 sub folder, more can be downloaded from thundermods. QUICK_EDIT
Thanks Madin. I came to that conclusion by some trial-and-error. I had to use something so I tried the DX shader and it worked. Now I need to find an efficient way to create textures for my models with photoshop.
Does anyone know of or have experience with creating textures for new models from scratch? Reliable ways? What pallette to use that would be compatible with C & C 3? Where to find them? _________________ "Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, its time to pause and reflect." QUICK_EDIT
