Helipad clipping problem - art design or coding?
I'm busy designing a bigger helipad for GDI/Forgotten, one where big VTOL's like the Dropship and Orca Transport can land without squashing the pad completely.
However, I get a very nasy clipping problem - wrong layer shown at top - which I have been unable to solve.
Scenario 01: the structures on the left part of the building are part of the bib.
- Result: the aircraft is always drawn on top, as it should be, but anything moving or built behind the aeroport will be rendered OVER the building's art (since the structures and antennae are bib, they are always drawn at the bottom).
Scenario 02: add buildings on lefthand side to art of main building; bib consists of the tarmac
- Result: the bottom part of the building renders behind the DSHP, but the top part of the building renders in front of the DSHP, obscuring its detail. This scenario is displayed in the attached ingame screenshot.
I included the art file as well, with MAAPRT on the left and MAAPRTBB on the right. The art.ini entry looks as follows:
I think you can only try to use NormalZAdjust= to lower/raise the building in its render layer.
I would start with NormalZAdjust=25 (positive value lowers the layer; negative raises the layer so it's drawn above other things), so the main building is moved 1 height layer down, which might be enough to make it shown behind the dropship. If not play with the value until you find a right setting. Though it could be possible that this doesn't exist, as a too high positive value makes the building disappear partially under the ground.
If you can't find a working value, just move more of the high building to the bib, so only the part of the building that visually leaves the 3x3 foundation is in the building shp and the rest in the bib. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
Hmm... Thanks for the advice. Think I'm going to change the bib so that it forms a diamond shape (3x3), with everything 'above' the diamond outlines as the main building. That should solve most of the clipping, I think. And then some tweaking with the ZAdjust, just to be safe. Will post update tonight (ISP permitting!). _________________ Adapt or die QUICK_EDIT
