Deploying aircraft?

I was wondering: is it possible to build an aircraft from a helipad, have it take off, land - and then deploy into a building? I would test this myself, but am at work at the moment.

The idea is related to my Dropship Aeroport building I am designing at the moment. The idea is to be able to build a Dropship which, instead of being flown around the battlefield, is landed at a location and then deployed into a base structure. This could either be used to establish a forward base, or the deployed Dropship could be sold for $X, where X is more than the cost of building the Dropship in the first place.

Has anyone ever tested anything in this direction?

no, AircraftTypes can't deploy.

indestructible in air (well, particle based weapons can destroy it, IIRC; but missiles and similar won't deal any damage)

I managed to make a vehicle with aircraft locomotor to deploy. However it was bit weird as they did not always deploy, think you needed to time it just right when they were landing. Not sure if it could have been made to work 100% since I gave up experimenting on it. Benefits to using this instead of vehicle + jumpjet locomotor is that you can customize the flight level, speed, etc by altering the unit only, not the jumpjet locomotor. And like Ordosherrscher said, they are indestructible in air. Unless you use the Jellyfish=yes key but the AI still won't target them. Might be impossible to make them work as buildable units too, the warfactory tends to get stuck when a vehicle with aircraft locomotor pops out if I remember correctly.

How about a building that undeploys into an aircraft? Would that be possible? Or would it be the same as trying to give a building a FreeUnit= infantry unit, which then screws up the free unit?

Same. They just can undeploy into vehicles, ask Hyper for further informations
