Maybe Abel was thought of as the messiah and Kane killed him because he wanted to be the leader/saviour in his stead. Kane tampered with prophecy :O

In Star Wars, Anakin Skywalker tampered with prophecy where he was to be the chosen one by turning to the dark side and serving the Empire.
