Well i went and bought the latest PC powerplay today, thats one of Australias best gaming mags and i found an interesting article inside about this new rts. From what ive seen it looks bloody impresive and looks like BF2 spliced with operation flashpoint coded with an incredible RTS engine based on the USA getting invaded by the reds under realistic curcumstances. We will soon see how modable it is though. I have just seen the movies for it and my mind is blown. check the following link out and see what you think. and dont forget to check those movies out.

That looks like a fantastic game, I remembered that Massive were working on something new after Ground Control 2 (excellent game, I recommend it) but they seemed to vanish away. If it's anywhere near as good as GC2 in terms of gameplay then combined with the graphics it should be an amazing game.

Not really, there just two superpowers duking it out, they each have their reasons for doing what their doing as such. Well thats what that guy in one of the movies said anyway.

They will continue to "live" as zombies, hollow shells of their former essence after being milked to death.

Like the modding community has plenty? Rolling Eyes This community is about as idea filled as EA, maybe less. All the idiots clamoring for and trying to make 'Westwood C&C3' are just as big of a hamper on the franchise.

The community needs to get mobilized and move on to make better ideas. Quake modding was so epic and successful because it did so much more then hell knight reskins and maps full of shamblers. It gave birth to Team Fortress and Counter*Strike for God's sakes. I have yet to see our community create something that broke the mold for C&C that thrived. AR2 is ancient history and we still can't get past the 'we can do better then EA/Westwood' idea for another GDI and Nod war.

True,TCs aren't something done by everybody, and when I mean TCs,I mean mods which come up with original ideas, such as TAKTICS

There are stuff which could be done, yet the comunity hasn't evolved enough maybe.Or,it didn't have the impulse.Only impulse that existed was MO,and maybe TO/TI.But those are typical sequels/prequels.

There are mods which are new and interesting, such as AG:SA and Apocalypse(which, was pretty awesome IMO.)

But,the comunity stops pretty much at sequels. That's it.

TCs aren't so much supported mostly because sequels/prequels aren't done, and ppl who do such mods because they are easier.Lets face it:Its not easy to do a TC.SHP format has a limited pallete, conversion takes time, coding has its restrictions, mapping takes time, creating music takes time,a lot of stuff take a hell lot of time.

Well, thats what I always wanted RA1 and RA2 look like, almost. Still, it looks boring as hell. And its not the regular base building westwood strategy anymore.

And the only thing I started to play CnC games, was base building.

Meh, TS and Firestorm are free now. Later, RA2/YR may be freeware too. Fans who never get to play these games will finally get to play them one day, so be happy about that.

Have you forgotten that our engines are limited?

It doesn't mean that every mod has to have GDI/Nod in various different iterations.

Quake was a limited engine. It's just the sad reality Id Software kicked the shit out of Westwood in terms of allowing the modder to access the game features. Limits that Deformat mentioned, like palettes were things were even worse for the Quake modder. Quake had one global palette for everything.

And in regards to the original topic. CNC is dead and has been dead for some time. WiC had no impact on it, but I must say it is a damn fine game and I <3 it a great deal.

Palettes don't limit creativity... hardcoded game scripting does.
