I'm wanting to make a mod of my own design, however, I'm not sure if people would prefer the latest RockPatch before VK's rights were taken from it, or the NPatch. Which would have more useful features to use and have is basically what I'm asking. I'm just wanting to know as I'm waiting for Ares to come out.

just use npatch. latest rockpatch sucks bad... and the last good rock patch has hardly any features compared to npatch. you can always convert the mod for ares near the end, not all the codings will be losted... just some.

Afaik Ares is in beta stage now (no more features will be added, only bugs fixed) and will be released rather soon.

NPatch is far from bug-free from what I've heard, so tbh I wouldn't waste my time with it when Ares is just around the corner.

IIRC the only good RockPatch was CE, after that NPSE 0022 was the best IMO.

YEAH, I have noticed some bugs, but it still good and better than rockpatch.
If some feature is buggy, then simply not use it, or find a way around it.

So pretty much use NPatch over the last GOOD Rockpatch? That's the vibe I'm getting from you all so far, especially since most RA2YR mods use it.

Lol only 1 month.

I recommend waiting for this, unless you for some reason want to release sooner then that.

EDIT: fixed quote

Seriously. Ares is a hell of a lot better than NPatch. Not quite as many features but a lot of fixes and good testing before we call a feature done.

Well if your just starting a mod and you haven't considered additional functionality I would recommend waiting for Ares just because it will have active support and most likely mod related IE can be located by creator.

However if your mod has been worked on for like years with lots of NPatch coding you might find it more difficult to switch over.

Also will depend on what features you need from patch.

For example Mig Eater has to use NPAE because it has no unit cap and additional superweapon logic.

Also a good patch won't prevent all IE as some are the results of how the original engine was designed or just modder mistakes i.e. failing to read documentation.

One classic example I found out was how Fire/EMP Pulse superweapons will cause a Internal Error if the units weapon has no valid Report= statement which is a bug from Tiberian Sun original implementation of it.
