Alright kids. Lets have a contest. First prize will be something -big-. My steam account. (Oh, snap.)

However... I want to know, what kind of contest do you think would be the best kind to us?

Voxels?
SHP?
Map?
3D Models?

What, to you guys, is the biggest need we have?

the GUI one was canceled IIRC.

Also,a 2D-only graphics contest wasn't done.Sidebars would be interesting, since no one managed to do such a contest, and there is quite a limited number of them in the community.Maybe we should focus on what we haven't focused that much.

How about another rulesmd.ini code contest? I think it's good, especially now that Ares is out. No adding .SHPs or voxels.

there where some concept art ones in the past. >.>

a mini-game contest could be interesting. The focus would be to create a small game, unrelated to C&C, it could but the focal point would be creating a different game play. Like hungry hungry harvesters. lol.

w3d contest. We did have a 3d contest before, but all those models were high poly and unusuable for ingame stuff. I already volunteer me, dutchy, and mt as contestants.

A successful GUI contest would be cool to see. I'm definitely in favor of GUI contests.

DaFool, start a new topic with the rules of the contest. If possible, provide few images for contest banner (less than 600 pixel width) and perhaps a button.

There was a concept art contest before? When?

Well, it could've happened during my inactivity, probably did D:

Inzane, Concept art contest from back in '07

Anyway, a w3d contest seems to secular. The people you named, Dafool, are pretty much the only one's I would see entering. #Tongue

Yee. If anyone wants to take it and try it again, by all means, do so.

If it was a W3D comp i would concider trying to enter but im a n00b when it comes to 3D modeling, i would also try to enter any .shp or GUI comp

What ever happened to the single player mapping comp, ive still got my (wip) entry saved on this computer.

another Mini mod comps (no adding graphics just editing)would be interesting, if its for CnC, RA, TS or Generals (probs better Gen ZH) i would consider entering if i thoughti had a strong idea of what to do

We already have a 3D/.shp contest set for the summer, so maybe changing it to a 3D/W3D contest might be fun. That way all game versions will be included, from RA to Generals. This way more people can get involved. What do you think?

As much fun as a mapping competition would be, the community seriously lacks in INI coding contests. These can be some of the most fun contests ever due to the creativity needed, yet they're rarely done. I propose an Ares-influenced rulesmd.ini contest to help promote it's release.

If you guys don't do it, Freedom Studios will. :v

M7 you know YR doesn't work for me, so no. #Tongue

I see people like INI contests. However, I'm very partial toward mapping competitions. TS especially because a lot of maps have the same cliche shit brown lighting and thunderstorms...

What would you guys think of a city building contest? Mappers have to pick a city and design a map that looks remotely like the city or its outskirts?

Not my fault you have a shitty computer. :p

Mapping competitions are so ztyping lame. Especially TS mapping competitions. I've never seen a "cliche" RA2 map with the exception of the symmetric ones. RA2 maps generally have awesome environments while focusing on RA2's superior gameplay.

INI contest. We need a contest that isn't overdone. Not to mention anyone can code a minimod, so the contest has easy access.

Why can't we have more than one competition at a time? There's plenty of people good at something, but not that many good on multiple things.

A triathalon comp sounds cool. But also sounds time consuming, which I dont have alot of. But I'll wait and see what you guys come up with before I decide.

Im up for a Voxel, Mapping, SHP, concept art, or LEGO contest. Im up for almost anything... I don't think I could be a part of the 3D model contest. I know this isn't usually my cup of tea, but I would be up for some change to my schedule

...

I like that idea a lot. 4 map co-op campaign competition. Its settled.

OK.

Competition is from now to August 30th 2010 (My first day of classes.). 12:00 am September 1st or later you're not allowed to submit. It ends. The goal is a 4 map (minimum) campaign to be played co-operatively over RA2: Yuri's Revenge. It can be Allied, Soviet, or Yuri driven.

Rules:

No new MIXes or modded files. Map modifications of units are allowed (Eg: using the HIND for some prototype helicopter or something) IF needed or the storyline justifies it.

New content only. Don't port over 4 Multiplayer maps and add in a few triggers an go 'I MADED MAPS!! Very Happy'. I will trace you and find you in real life if you do.

Oooother than that...

Have fun.

Maps will be judged in the following categories:

Lighting - Is the lighting appropriate, and does it work well?

Triggers - Fancy doo-dads. More working triggers = bigger points. A thousand broken triggers = No points.

Storyline - How good the storyline is, also, consistency.

Realism - No SUVs in Russia or polar bears in Iraq. If your maps take place in the middle east for instance, try for some semblance. Don't throw in a pyramid in a desert and go 'LOOK MA ITS IRAQ'. No.

Creativity - Making missions other then Build a base, destroy AI will get you more points, and closer to a nice steam account.

Need judges by the way. I'm not judging them myself. #Tongue

I concur, a contest to spice the interest up about areas that don't get much attention like sidebars or GUI's would be great, I plan to model some myself actually Wink , just need to figure out how to get them ingame and working well.

umm... I wasn't talking about some thing as huge as four maps... I think one multilayer co-op map like what RA2 has would be asking a lot as it is.

Also, I think maybe some one with some more experience in organized and executing competitions should be involved with this.

With 3d contests, we get to see the usual participants doing 3d. Like he said, it's overdone. The ini, lego and the GUI were the really interesting contests, too bad the GUI were cancelled though. Although other contest ideas are cool too, why not make it a Ares-release celebration-month community-wide series of contests?

I think we need to have an animation contest, like "explosion animations" I think this would be an interesting and not so easy one. Besides we need some new animations around here anyway.

That'd be fun. Use only shp builder to make them.

Didn't we do an animation contest? Hmm.

I'm very hesitant toward an ini contest to be honest. I'm giving away a lot of games here. If we did one, I'd want something pretty big. Hmm. Why not a summer map contest (not for the account)? Then I'll hold the account contest over the holidays between the Fall and Spring semester.

Late christmas gifts. #Tongue

How about a competition to make the most complete and functional vehicle possible. I'm talking voxels, deploying into buildings, shp anims, sounds, ini coding, the whole shebang.

What does everyone reckon?
