Just like to say Thanks to those who have fought and died, and to those who are still fighting to protect our Nation, Though it's a little screwed up at the moment, This Salute is for all of you who have served and still serving in our military. Happy Memorial Day!

Perhaps some explanation for the non-US persons on the forum?

Dutchygamer, its like '4 & 5 mei'
Memorial = 4 mei
Celebrating freedom = 5 mei

Obvious, only America adds something to it. Like the Salut.

dont get it neither...
So, there are two very important dates nearly together. The first one is what? Memorial to these who died in the civil war? Or Independent War? Second isn't that accurat neither. Freedom for what? America or the slaves?

July 4th: Independence Day, celebrating our declaration and eventual realization of our independence from the English Empire.

Memorial Day (last Monday of the month of May)
A Federal Holiday that is reserved to reflect upon the service of those who have FALLEN or are MISSING IN ACTION in ALL WARS OF THE UNITED STATES. It extends to living service men and women by genuine American courtesy for its service members, although the holiday is not specifically reserved for this.

Veteran's Day: Honoring LIVING veterans of ALL American Wars, from the Revolutionary War to the Operation Iraqi Freedom.

You got it, Regulus!
Celebrating those who don't get to return from wars, and honoring them.

Very good explanation Regulus, I couldnt have said it better. But yeah it's a US Holiday to honor the fallen, but it's not ment to honor thier death, it's ment to honor what they died for.

Actually, it honors all servicemen regardless if they were in a war or not.

The United Kingdom of great Britain and Ireland is the full title, even our Tory politicians refer to it as the UK now a days, we have lost our ways, lost the word Great from our title and if the eurovision song contest was any thing to go by no body likes us Crying or Very sad

Well we are the UK, but the British Empire was named before Ireland was united with us (i.e. the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland) then of course Ireland rebelled and we just stuck with Northern Ireland.

You make it sound like we need the word "great" in our title to actually be great. We are still a powerful nation, don't you know>
