My TS freezes during a skirmish loading screen. The last time this happened was when i was modding the TIBSUN.mix. This time, I inserted new custom voxels into the local.mix, and then slipped that back into the TIBSUN.mix.

And now it won't load. Last time I fixed this by clearing everything I've modded and cleaning the slate. I'm not doing it this time, lol.

Am I doing something wrong by placing new files in the TIBSUN.mix? And should I be able to fix this by clearing the new files?

Note that it's not an IE, it freezes halfway through loading.

EDIT: I gotta stop posting threads so often. lol. Sorry about that. I removed the new files and everythings working fine. I suppose I'll try making an expand02.mix? Not sure how that's gonna work.

i knew this whould happen :S

look your suppose to only add new units to expand##.mix (where ## is a number form 02 to 99) only don't you read any tutorials?.
and if your game fails to load its because some code is missing in your [infantry], [vehicle] or [building] lists or is mis-spelled in rules.ini, it also happens to misspelled warheads and weapons too.

Why are you editing the original mix files? You should never do that unless you know exactly what you're doing (which you clearly don't). I highly suggest you give this a read before you do any more modding at all. I also recommend reinstalling your Tiberian Sun, sounds like you've made quite a mess. Start again from scratch after you've read the newbie guide and plenty more information about modding.

Thanks for the Info. And I've done no permanent damage, I actually fixed it. When putting new files in an expand##.mix file, do I put everything ive edited in there too? like the .ini's?

I also think I messed up with not having any .HVA files for the voxels. Very Happy

lol making entirely new units are a whole new ballgame. o.O

You should be using ecache02 or expand02 MIX files instead of inserting things into the original MIX files. Also XCC Mix Editor has a nasty habit of screwing up MIX files sometimes (feels like half the time) when you put in new stuff. If this happens just remove a few of the new things you put in there (don't need to remove everything), try starting a match and if it works, insert the new stuff back. Might have to keep doing this a few times before it works. Very, very, very annoying #Mad

Thanks for all the help, although I made myself look like a bumbling fool. Very Happy

I got the new unit to work, all I needed were the HVA files and I put them in the expand02.mix for good measure.

Thanks again guys! Very Happy

When adding things to a mix file you should avoid pressing the 'Compact' button, that has a tendency to corrupt Mix files.

Seems with me mix files corrupt all the time, compacted or not :S.

Strange, I only use compact. Never had a corrupted mix file, ever.

I've never had a crash before in vanilla TS. Even if I've corrupted mix files. And, I've even edited some original mix files and it works fine still. Lucky maybe?

What? I have done that for over a year (means hundreds of times) and my mix file is corrupted just once... Neutral

It's a common problem, believe me. If you have a large Mix file and you compact it, it has a chance of corruption. Both Lin Kuei Ominae and I have experienced it with TI and personal mods a lot in the past.
