Had an idea of a new unit.
Subject description: help needed though
I wanted tiberian sun to have a small version of the MCV to allow the player to build on new locations, kinda like in c&c3.
So here was my idea, I'm currently working on a clone of the Mobile sensor array. Its going to without the features of the original but the player will be able to build buildings near it when its deployed. Its slower and can't crush infantry so it's recommended that its being protected if going into hostile territory.
What I'm going to do is to give it a unique picture and skin but what I'm bothered about is a few programing things that i could use some help with.
-I want to make it have a slow deploy/un-deploy time for game balance.
-I want to be able press "D" within in a group of offensive deploy able units without it accidentally deploying as well.
-I want to add smoke effects when its being deployed and it occasionally freezing (for example when the supportive feet's have landed on the ground it will wait before the tower is going to be raised) to make sure that the animation is played out smoothly in the game play even though its getting to deploy allot slower then other units.
One way of solveing this would be to create a new "Deploy/Un-deploy" command that is not affected by the "D" hotkey and that can takes longer to peform. however I don't know how to do these kind of stuff in the rules.INI and animation.INI

As far as I know, you can't change deploy times for buildings. I'm unsure of smoke effects, maybe changing the color of fire? lol.
This is mostly cake to make it work like an Construction yard. The only things you'll have problems with (AFAIK) is the deploy time and deploy command key.
I've never delved too deep in the games controls, but Id assume it's hardcoded? D is Deploy no matter what. You can change it in the options but I'm pretty sure that you can't make an entirely new control.
All the specified problems are just educated assumptions by me, wait for a way more experienced member of the forum to post before you trash the idea.
yeah im pretty new to this, i was amazed of how much work westwood left out of the game. Knowing that i can turn the game into the kinda game i wished it would be is fantastic . QUICK_EDIT
