I know i've been asking alot of questions lately and forgive me, but I need to know alot.

I've been wanting to test out Ares, but from what I see their are alot of issies that come from it, but thats not what I'm asking for, I've done alot of work on my current project, work I wouldnt like to start over anytime soon, but I use NPatch MDK, would I have to start my progress over if I started using Ares?

Also, woul I just be better off sticking with NPatch?

How much work on that one project.

Is it like a month or like years.

How many features does mod need from NPatch and does Ares support those features.

I'm using NPatch because I've been working on my mod for years and converting it all to Ares would be a hassle for me.

However when I make a sequel for my mod I will obviously switch over because

- Its still being developed by the creators
- It has support and new features incoming
- It is more stable because it doesn't touch the exe

Hi Saint-X,

it looks like NPatch hasn't been updated for ages and will not develop any further. Ares does not support every feature NPatch has yet. On the other hand it has quite a few unique features itself and that list it is constantly growing.

It's hard to guess what features you are using. I think it's better to see yourself if everything you need is there. Appendix C and B in the Ares manual should provide a quick overview.

Honestly, i've been at it for as long as ive been here, but i started over a couple of times.

I'm not really using any specific npatch features at the moment, im just adding all the units, buildings etc to 2 seperate countries, so basically all ive done so far is art and rules ini work.

If your mod has no specific tags unique to NPatch then I highly recommend using/switching to Ares. But it all depends on what features your after. NPatch has some stuff that Ares dosent have at the present time but if you have the patience to wait, I assure you that the guys developing Ares are working very hard day in and day out to get a final product. It will be worth the extra wait.

Npatch has quite a bit of different stuff from Ares but the basics are there in different form. However look at the fact that Npatch has no more bug fixing done on it and is highly unstable. I suggest wait a while for Ares to kink out any problems they have atm then switch it over anyways, you won't have nearly as many problems in the long run.

Essentially, but you just chunck the files in the video folder in Launch Base Mod Creator. (making them loose files)

You dont need Launch Base Mod Creator, you can use Ares as a stand alone. and yes, you would just add things into Rules, Art, and mix files as you normally would.
The Ares Documentation can be confusing at first, but as you read thru it a few times, things start to make sense.

I never added units to mix files, only stuff that replaced others like flags and loadscreens, but thanks for the help, I tried the Launch Base method last night and it didnt make sense to me hardly, I followed the make a new game directory in the mod folder then Launcher/Video etc and it didnt do anything different, so i think I'll stick with Ares as a standalone.
