Thought I'd post up a couple of pics from 3ds Max of one of the tanks I have been working on. Still some work to be done.

It's a good start but there are several things that are too big/small or out of proportion.

The chassis is very lowpoly, but the tracks are nice. May i ask which technique you've used to create the tracks?

Sorry, I suck at explaining this, I am more hands on. I would make a video, but.......

The tracks are multi pieces. I think my length was 200, height 4, and 20 wide. In any case the track came just to the front of the front big wheel and just barely to the end of the rear wheel. There are roughly 100 segments in between, width segments 5. I made it an edit poly, went to polygon mode. Looking at top view i clicked on the first row of polys using segment 2-4 leaving the outside poly alone. I did this for every other one. Then I extruded each of height of 10. Then I went to bottom view and repeat the process except this time i went started at the second row and going every other one. The height of these pieces were 13. I left the top pieces alone, the are the pieces that actually hit touch the group. Then on the bottom section I went to vertex mode and moved them in a bit to make them kinda pointed. I cloned this and flipped it over for the top track. I made a 2 piece track, 1 nub and 1 pointed. This piece I rotated and moved into place till I liked how it look. Later On I'll make one post pics as I go

@ MigEater the body of the tank (where the track meets the body) is bit low, The turret is bit too wide and should be a bit higher and the distance between the turret and the rear could be a bit longer. I am working on this as we speak. That is the pic I am working off of, Think I am gonna break out my micrometer and go by scale of the pic

Thanks for the info.
Due to the very similar shape of each track segment, i thought you used a single segment and this multiplied over a Spline-curve that's going around the wheels.

no, im not that far into using 3dmax....I started out as simple as I could till I learn a bit more. every thing is pretty much the same scale except the tracks you can't really see. I made them so they look like they blend together.

I just realized that you (MigEater) should be all to familiar with this tank.

Here is my tank. I gave it basic texture for practicing purpose. I am still working on the textures, they are far from complete. There needs to be textures applied to the wheels, some of the body plus other stuff

How do I make the textures as a dds file?

LKO: you will notice I went back and some what finished the wheels. Still needs a bit of work though.

That's a lot better, my only suggestions is to make it wider & the barrel shorter (I presume this is a Mk.VII with a 75mm OQF?).

The turret doesn't look right IMO too but I'm not sure why TBH :/ Maybe it will fit better once you've added all the detailing.

@MigEater: you think the turret doesn't look right and that might be because of the lighting and also the back end of it needs to be brought inwards a tad. Once I do a bit more add a few things, I'll post up another pic trying to get better angle shots so you can give me another opinion on it. As for the barrel, if you go back up and look at the pic I am using, the barrel is a bit too long and is missing a piece. I also have to re-work the wheels a bit, the front and rear "drive" wheels are not complete.

and yes it is the Cruiser Mk VIII, Cromwell VI with a 75mm OQF

I found the time to do some work and updated pic, added some details. Wasn't paying attention till I previewed and saw cylinder13, screw it, I don't care...I'll hopefully finish it up later on today.
