I've been doing a little playing around with VHPScan=Strong on my non-hitscan weapon units and I've come to one question as a conclusion.

Why didn't Westwood use this more? It makes auto-acquire firepower distribution insanely intelligent!

Some observations:

1) While it works on hitscan weaponry, it's kinda unneeded as you will never have shots "in transit" when the target dies.

2) DistributedFire=yes seems to override VHPScan in all forms.

3) VHPScan does not appear to take Veterancy damage bonuses or Warhead Verses= multipliers into account. (I may be in error however.)

4) The Strong value basically denotes as when a group of units auto-acquires a new target, only as many units as can kill it in a single volley will target that unit. If the unit targeting the other can kill the first in a single hit, only a single attack will be launched. (Assumes a hit.)

5) In multiple target acquisition scenarios and multiple units in the attacking group, focus fire by way seen naturally (closest target grabs all the attention by default) is dependent on damage. High damage weapons that kill quickly will merit fewer and fewer shots. Thus with high damage weaponry will cause a group of units to distribute their fire to as many targets as is in the firing group. (6 units in this scenario can fire on up to 6 enemies natively assuming damage values are consistent with quick kills.)

6) It appears to work somewhat on Spawner=yes weapons and units. But not consistently enough in my observations. (It might have just been the scenario I was observing though.)

7) Cluster and Airburst weapons seem to take the first detonation value for targeting purposes. The submunitions are apparently not factored into a VHPScan.

Lastly, it's fun as hell.

Of course given the Ares project and all the knowledge gleaned so far, I could be completely wrong on a number of these parts.
