when I was looking for ways to make another superweapon, I kept running into forums that said I have to use the Npatch. Ive downloaded the NPSE0022 AND YR 1.001 patch from Mental Omegas website and using XCC i extracted the rulesmd.ini file from expand01.mix. Can anyone explain to me what NPSE0022 does(I read the text file so that didnt help)? And also what the expand01.mix does. Ive read alot of forums that have said in order to do alot of modding you have to save a file as expandxx.mix and I dont understand. I was expecting the Npatch to be more of a program that you physically mod but maybe its just the rulesmd.ini still thats been updated. Am I right? Do I just mod the rulesmd.ini file that I extracted from expand01.mix and rename it expand02.mix or what? Basically im trying to make a new superweapon. And I just learned how to mod last week and have been practicing alot so dont give me crap about being a noob because I am.lol

I dont know if I would recommend you jumping right into using NP being such a low level beginner. especially since you couldnt even figure out how to code in a refinery. Your just gonna run into a whole lot of problems, trust me. So if I were you I would take a step back and learn the basics first. NP isnt just a .mix file or a rulesmd.ini. It needs to be installed, then you need to read the Documentation "which pretty much explains how to use NP" and there isnt really a whole lot of support here for NP either. I do however recommend you use Ares, cause it dosent screw with the existing gamemd.exe and it has a couple new super weapons to fool with, especially the GenericWarhead Super which you can customize yourself. Seriously, check it out.

You have to uninstall it, I think. Because if you install Launchbase it says 'The RA2MD.exe is modified by a third party' so it is the best to have a clean RA2MD.exe, gamemd.exe. Besides, installing NPatch afterwards isnt that difficult

mix files are containers like zips that contain other files that RA2 uses. Things like graphic, .ini control files (like rulesmd.ini that controls unit statistics) and such. Seriously, NPatch is depreciated and isn't actively maintained anymore meaning you are stuck with any bugs it has and it isn't getting any new functions added. Better to use ares, but I'd get used to making changes to the rulesmd.ini in normal YR first.

You don't have to use Ares, but it's updated frequently and still supported. Full releases are mostly bug free as well.

Ares' manual is quite clear at explaining how to use Ares and what has changed, so I'd read through it.

Just to expand on that, the Ares manual is quite clear IF you are already comfortable with modding YR, I wouldn't recommend using ares without some basic YR modding experience first Smile
