Because Revora ztyping sucks these days, reposting here.

Looking for opinions on the current setup, maybe even suggestions if you know what you're talking about. I sense a few people calling me nuts or saying its overkill, but oh well. When you see the function for everything, it has a purpose. Might not be overly necessary, but oh well. #Tongue

As per usual, everything here is subject to change and will be updated accordingly when the time arises. There's images for my gaming/development PC, but none else.

Oh, and a note about the operating systems and some of the software: I'll have a TechNet subscription so I will definitely not be spending thousands on OS and software licenses. #Tongue

Enough yapping, here's the parts lists.

if you're going to spend that much money, and seeing what you have there for your motherboard, you might as well add another 8 GB of ram and another video card. It will greatly reduce your 3d render time and the ram will reduce load times in programs such as PhotoShop, 3DS Max, and any audio software.

That thing is awesome. As for 3D, he doesn't need 3D.

Oldskool movies FTW.

SLI is a planned upgrade for later on in terms of video. The RAM will be fine too since I don't need more than 8GB worth. That in itself might still be overkill, but it'll be fun. That, and I don't want to spend $500 on RAM.

For a few more bucks, why not go for it all and throw in a Intel Core i7 860 / 2.8 GHz processor?

Doesn't offer enough performance to the justify that extra cost.

Boot and apps drive.

makes sense. I just use photoshop in conjunction with 3ds max so frequently that it lags the hell out of my computer (then again, I'm only working with 4GB of DDR2 Ram)

More than I have right now. But I'm not getting it all at once. That would be crazy talk.

First time I've ever seen a HDD with space measured in terabytes. I knew those exist, just had never actually seen one (nor had I searched for one, heh). Are you sure it's enough? #Tongue

I have both an internal and an external 1TB HDD (and both are already half-way filled) #Tongue
Also, good to see someone else is a Western Digital fan Smile

Holy crap, half of one and half of the other would equal 1tb, thats alot of stuff Dutchy Razz Course with the size of todays games and programs you almost need that much storage. Not to mention movies take up alot of space too!

But secondary hard drives are awsome for backing things up, especially a SATA drive, I backup my primary drive to the secondary drive everyday. Not taking any chances. I've had some bad, bad, things happen in the past.

I have LGA 1156 motherboard and it's fukken awesome. You should get Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Why not all HDD slots get 1.5Tb hard drive? With those specs you can overclock the CPU. Although I'm not sure if it is possible.

I've had 300 GB for the last 4 years and have had no problems with it. Actually, currently half of it is unused. I always wonder how people can need multiple TBs of storage space, but then again I never download any games/movies etc. A lot of that 160 gb used is used by my virtual machines.

That setup looks very powerful, although expensive.

I will never use what W7 Ultimate has over W7 Pro. It would be a waste of features.

That's what my file share is for. I don't even need that much local storage.

Overclocking is almost always possible. But it's not my cup of tea, and I usually don't need to do it.

Gonna be a monster when I can finally afford it. At least the gaming PC build anyway.

Nah, the external 1TB HDD has mostly the same stuff the internal 1TB HDD has (or at least, my main folder with all my stuff), and many films I acquired trough... some ways we all know #Tongue
