What is a good game to you?
I'd like to know what kind of games really motivate the residents of Vault PPM. Is it a FPS with constant amounts of violence or is it a nice game where you build up your base and take on your enemy with a army you created. I plan to take some of the ideas here and implement them into a new game I want to create. So just say whats popular amongst you and your friends. QUICK_EDIT
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was a good game series in general (except clear sky for the most part), it had overall a great athmosphere, the needet realism within a fantasy tale, a serious and intelligent plot, and it felt real in battles so that you think over when to start one and when not, at the very least the decisions you took. so S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shoc and Cop were good games to me, the only thing were the glitches wich turned me a bit down, the glitches and the performance, but overall it is good.
most of all the best of these games was exploring a world that is alive.

STALKER is indeed one of the best games when it comes to the global theme and atmosphere. Clear Sky was OK, but Call of Pripyat (which I'm playing now) is awesome. Haven't played Shadow of Chernobyl yet (I do have it).
As for other games: Team Fortress 2 is a fricking nice multiplayer game, if you love violence in a bit cartoony form QUICK_EDIT
It really depends on the type of game. Each genre has its own sort of 'standards' that constitute being called "good." However, every genre requires many elements but chief among them are a captivating story, solid gameplay, proper challenge and a rewarding experience. Notice I didn't mention multiplayer OR graphics; neither of those elements is a requirement to be a good game.
Many games today lack one of the four main elements. And it varies among the four. It's not one single element I find lacking in new games today. Not to say old school games didn't have its share that lacked the main elements, but it wasn't quite as often and there were so many more unheard of classics back then. The one I remember most is The Legend of the Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon on the Nintendo 64. That game... so much fun.
Anywho, the main elements I mentioned are there because without them, the experience is not very engaging and then not worth your time and effort. And again, I come back to new games since my brother works at a game stop and his store shelves are full of used games of seemingly popular titles like Halo 3 and nearly every Call of Duty. This leads me to a conclusion - those titles lacked a main element and thus are not "good."
I could probably run on and on. But I'll say this - if you finish a game and feel like you'll never play it again, that game lacked a major element to be "good." Should it be that you'll never play the campaign again and just multiplayer, the game still isn't "good." _________________ KGR | AT

This, for the most part.
I can name several games like this, however, they are also jaded, or hackneyed, as in being cliche. A good game should feel new every step of the way, and has a high replay value. _________________ Okay, my signature was starting to annoy even me. QUICK_EDIT

Mass Effect 1, 2, and hopefully 3. The series is intriguing, the detail is amazing, and the way that the player develops is great. you choose how you develop, who joins your team, and ultimately how the game ends. I also love how your choices from the previous games affect the current or future games. _________________ "Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn't want to live there." -Adam Young QUICK_EDIT

The perfect game controls:
First Person Shooter (Melee and/or Shooting) with limb control, so you can shoot/use your weapon, throw a grenade, perform some melee attacks (attack types double when unarmed, including disarming attacks), and be able to move (and perform evasive maneuvers, like rolling) and change posture in all areas.
It's all about control for me, and being able to realistically reload and switch weapons, prime equipment, punch someone out, or cut his head off, etc. It's gotta be First Person. _________________ Destroy to create. All for the hunt to dominate!
I guess I'm going to have to get my good old UDK or Untiy working again if I want to meat some of the things here. Before I work on this though ill be working on a zombie game with base building. Keep the ideas coming and what you like or want. QUICK_EDIT
In any video game, balanced gameplay and graphics makes it pretty good. Great gameplay but shit graphics makes players frown at how shitty it looks but keeps them occupied and excited with the gameplay. Great graphics but shit gameplay makes would be players watch gameplay videos on Youtube instead of playing it themselves. Length of the game also plays a part. Sucks for an epic game to last for only an hour. Also the extra content, specifically cut scenes and storyline. Epic cut scene to tell an interesting story may win your heart (or in extreme cases, makes you wanna cosplay as Sora repeatly and go to anime fairs). Cut scene fill with slap-stick humour however, may make you wanna headdesk ("The Soviets go against everything we strive for. Peace, freedom, apple pie! Did I said freedom?") _________________ The future belongs to The Forgotten!
Any game that motivates me to play the game. To be honest I really like the old games way back in 2000. _________________ Ponies are not awesome. Kill all bronies with fire. QUICK_EDIT
