I have ben a little messy with my laptop.
It's running Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit.
Something is hogging almost all of my memory, so, I want to start killing all processes in task manager except those essential for running Windows.

So, can anyone fill in the missing text in this sentence:

"Dude, kill all processes except ___________, then open msconfig and make sure they dont autostart again, and reboot. Your memory usage should be normal for a clean win7 laptop now"

I would very much appreciate the help

I'd start by uninstalling any junk programs and running Malwarebytes Antimalware.

y'know, maybe i'll just completely reinstall this thing.
It's a preinstalled HP laptop, which came with all sort off gadgets that look real nice, but, i don't want them.
I tried uninstalling them, but, dont ask me how, they somehow reinstalled themselves.
Perhaps I should reformat and reinstall, then keep track of what processes are run by a comletely clean installation, so when there's something entering the list neither windows or myself put there, I know enough.

There's quite some junk on it indeed. Thanks for the reply.

First step with pre-built PC's: reinstall the OS to get rid of all the producer's crap #Tongue

Yes, this is always a good idea. However, OEM versions of OS's try to make it hard for you to do just that.

I just remembered.. the bastards never gave me any windows discs...
Is it legal to download 'n burn an ISO, provided you have a legal product code?
If yes where can I get a reliable one, if no, never mind, I'll just borrow/buy a disc

TPB has good ISOs, but I'm not at liberty to say that. Oh wait, I already did. #Tongue

However, it's not as easy as grabbing an ISO for prebuilts most of the time. I usually have to order the restore set from a third party. That way I ensure correct drivers and special settings that may, or may not, be required.
