Sure, but we were talking about nowadays' laptops, which do make use of that 3 GB of RAM Not three or four year old laptops.
I have a two year old laptop with only 2GB of RAM, but it's XP rather than Vista.

You can always choose for the currently overpriced SSD, but those are only for making your pc start extremely fast imho.
I bought a 32GB Corsair Nova SSD for less than $80. I'm using it as a boot drive of course, but still. Solid state drives are getting much cheaper and have done so in the last six months.

And besides that, HDD don't cost shit anymore these days. I can get a good 1TB HDD for around 80 euros (if not less these days).
It's less if you grab a Samsung Spinpoint. _________________ Discord: princess_marisa

I got mine around a year ago, and back then it was 80 euros. It was a WD though.
As for the SSD: I'm very tempted to get one myself, but I dislike the idea of having to reinstall Windows and all the programs (and games) I installed on C: But then again, maybe I'll keep the current C: HDD and have 3 HDD's in my PC (1 280GB, 1 TB and 1 SSD) QUICK_EDIT
I want a professional OS and not one made for morons.
So uh, I dunno.. Might be hard to wrap your head around this concept, but try really hard:
If you don't like it, find another OS that suits your "professional" (harhar) needs.
I'm not sure though, I mean, Windows is made for us morons, yet you have such a hard time understanding the most basic things in it. Those "professional" OS's out there could really make your brain swell. And well, we'd probably end up with another thread like this, but for another operating system.
TOO BAD MS PAINT ISN'T AN OPERATING SYSTEM, IT HAS 6 FONTS AND I LOVE ITS EASY INTERFACE. US PROFESSIONALS KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
oh and, I liked Vista and Win7 is a step up from that. So really enjoying my Win7 right now. QUICK_EDIT
I hate to bump an old thread. Oh wait, no I don't!
Anywho, after using Windows 7 Pro 64-bit officially for the last two weeks, it is, by and large, quite superior to Windows XP and most other operating systems out there (looking at you MacOS and your fail).
The improvements are quite vast, even with the numerous UI changes. And, naturally, the UI changes from XP to Vista can feel a bit drastic but once you're used to the layout, it's really not so bad. I don't mind the new control panel layout, and nothing about Windows Explorer is really that bad. My only real gripe about Windows Explorer is that the menu bar is off by default, but two clicks and it's right back where it should be.
Moving on to the task bar. Pinning is rather nice; I don't make use of it since I have a loaded quick launch bar. Oh, and yeah, totally added quick launch back to the taskbar, along with my other one I always add. Classy taskbar with those fancy new 7 additions. I really, really like 7's grouping of program instances. That is, quite possibly, the best task bar feature for Windows 7. And I can move those groups around as I see fit. That's really slick too. So basically... I have an XP style taskbar with Windows 7 flare to it. Can't beat that.
Start Menu is the same as it ever was. I always hated the expanding menus so the new setup is quite an improvement over the old one. Always felt like the menu took forever to generate but now it's speedy and clean. No complaints there.
C+P dialog is more verbose, but ultimately the same as before. I can copy and paste over the top of files, and it's nice to have the option of not overwriting everything. For any gripes about it, read the entire dialog box before saying anything. Everything you need is right there in front of you.
I actually like Aero so I have it enabled on full. Transparency is just so awesome looking. And, amazingly, it doesn't slow me down one bit.
I don't even mind the installation size. Mine was about 14GB on a full install of 7 Pro x64. Not too shabby really. I was able to trim my install size down a few gigs by splitting my page file among 2 hard drives. That really speeds up a few reads and writes. Hell, I only have ~30GB total for my OS drive and I still have nearly 14GB free and that includes updates and my core applications. Not a shabby install size honestly.
I haven't reinstalled everything I own just yet, but I don't foresee any real trouble with anything. I already know Notepad++ works, and I'm certain VS2008 and VWD will run without a hitch.
I'm pretty sure that addresses everyone's stupid comments on the first page. There is nothing about that OS that is any different than another OS except for some glitz and glamor. I can play games, write code, edit photos and do whatever else I need to do all the same as I could with 95, 98, 2000 and XP.
With that, I hereby conclude that any, and all, complaints from the first page are null and void. That goes double for LKO.
In case that's too much to read, I'll put it short and blunt - you fail, die in a fire immediately. _________________ Discord: princess_marisa
