That's still pretty damn awesome. Perhaps not comparable to anything we'd see in a movie (IE, Transformers 2), but it's a huge step closer. I'd say anywhere between the next 5 to 10 years, they'll have something twice as powerful.

Looking at this PDF, they say the effective energy of a 140mm tank gun's penetrator would be about 14 megajoules.

So yeah, a tank mounting a device of this sort would probably be able to penetrate the thick glacis plate or frontal turret of a Challenger II or M1A2 SEP. Easily.
