How to make maps darker or clearer?

I'm really a newbie in creating maps. I've noticed that when the maps are a bit darker than the normal lighting maps, they look better.
So I want to make dark and beautiful maps, does anybody know how to do it?

In the "Edit" tab, go to "Lighting" - change those options as you see fit.
There are the basic lighting settings on the left, which define the amount and intensity of the light, and on the right are the RGB values which define the light's colour.

There are also some predefined lighting sets which you can find in the scripts menu (Evening Lighting, Afternoon Lighting, etc).
