Deployable Infantry Anyone???

Just one more question(hopefully Laughing ).I plan on making it so that Light Infantry are deployable, just like in RA2, but I want to know if anyone has ever done this, or if it is beyond TS's engine capabilities. Question

Only vehicles are deployable, so aircrafts are also out of the question (in case you were thinking of bringing the Siege Chopper over from RA2).

you could make a shp vehicle that looks like infantry, or a squad of infantry.

The seige chopper is a vehicletype. It uses the balloon hover logic in RA2 (well, I guess that's not in TS anyway). Actual aircraft (IE the Harrier, which uses the same flight logic as TS's helicopters IIRC) still can't deploy in RA2.

That might be your best workaround. Can't remember if you can assign deployment sounds on a per-unit basis however...
There's also the difficulties of getting it to be built from a building other than a war factory.

Could do it like this; the unit you build can be an APC of some kind that, when deployed, turns into an APC with soldiers and sandbags or whatever around the APC. Just a thought. It technically doesn't start as infantry, but it's a similar idea.

Though the main problem I see with that (considering my negligible experience modding TS) is that you would only be able to attack one target at a time as opposed to multiple targets simultaneously as you would expect from a squad of deployed individuals.

Don't worry. The balloonhover logic wouldn't be important enough, because my workarounds work quite well. #Tongue

Deploy = Vehicle Type -> Building Type only. Reverse is true for Undeploy.

Also, Free Unit given with a Building Type is always a Vehicle Type, thus you'lll need to make a Building that looks like a stationary APC which spawns "Infantry Squad" shp-vehicle as a workaround.

That is, unless someone found a way to spawn an APC loaded with Infantry, then we'll have a field day.

Just a thought, you could always have the APC deploy into a bunker-style Building, with animated infantry shps surrounded by sandbags (like what Gravedust said). That would be kinda cool to have for a GDI-based structure.
