It's hard to say what your problem is with too little information.
Make sure the .3ds file and all corresponding textures are in thier own folder, run 3ds2vxl, make sure you have RA2 normals chosen and also make sure UseMaterials and UseTextures are ticked. Keep in mind that not all 3d models converted to vxl come out as planned. Most of the time they look decent but you will still need to do some touching up.

"scratches head while thinking", Um, Are you using a downloaded file from the internet? If so, are the textures .dds or have some other wierd extention? If so you'll have to resave the textures to something like .bmp, .png, or .jpeg. Then you have to reapply the textures to the model. You cant just rename the textures and expect it to work.

Thats fine, but did you reapply the textures to the model after you changed them to .bmp?

you might have to UV UnWrap it, then reapply the textures.
If you want you can send the model and textures to me and I'll have a look to see whats going on.

Well, it seems I cant help you with this one. 3dsmax wont except these .3ds files. Says they are in the wrong format.

I would of had it for you earlier, but before I exported into .3ds I forgot to convert it into 1 single mesh, resulting in 8 different parts "which it dosent need for this type of vxl". So I had to redo the whole damn thing. But I think it came out better 2nd time around anyway.
Quick question though, when you convert the textures from .dds to .bmp do you just rename it to .bmp or do you actually open the image in a photo editor and resave it as .bmp? asking cause your textures still had the .dds format but had the .bmp ext.

was just wondering cause they still seemed to have that .dds type data which is why 3ds2vxl wasnt converting the textures properly. I converted them to .png and everything worked out well. Try to stick with .png for your textures. They seem to work the best with 3ds2vxl even though 3ds2vxl reads multiple different file types.

I noticed you havent downloaded the vxl yet.

I can get max to duplicate that image, just I have to stretch the texture image. But converting to .3ds and then to vxl, it wont keep that data. So I'll have to redo the UV Coordinates to make the texture fit. I'll see what I can do. But this is turning into more than I expected. So if the other one turns out to need what this one does then I'm just not gonna do it. You'll have to get a hold of the Blender Noob2Pro tutorial and work with it.

i'm not sure i remember correctly but i think resaving the textures in a different format is enough and you don't have to reapply the textures in a 3d program. also i think compressed bmp files don't work in 3ds2vxl.
