Subject description: Not an IE
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

G'day, recently I seem to be having a problem with my game freezing. I start a skirmish map and usually within 5 - 10 minutes of playing I get a freeze, this isn't an IE, I have no except.txt file left in my folder and my game also creates a log file that doesn't seem to shed light on the matter. The game is modified to use less units via map editing, but uses simple TechLevel=-1 entries for undesired units and buildings so theoretically there is less stuff to go wrong. I've tried on all AI settings incase it was a particular time interval on a specific setting but it doesn't seem to have any effect. A part of me believes it may be due to background interference from other programs, I'm not running compatability mode, though perhaps running it could help. I've heard of many freezing issues before, but I think the resolutions were all different and odd.

Problems that i know, that can cause the game to freeze.

1. missing/wrong vxl of a voxel debris
2. inconsistencies between rules.ini and firestrm.ini. e.g. a weapon defined but not used in rules.ini and then used on a unit in firestrm.ini. Since rules.ini is loaded first and the weapon is not used there, it is then not available in firestrm.ini too. (even if you might expect both inis to be mixed when loaded)
3. the classic corrupt mix
4. tiberium cruentus that is spawned via an animation on a slope (cruentus has no slope patches)

Had these too when I took win98 compatibility mode off, along with sound and music volumes jumping up and down. As ^Rampastein said in the other topic, set the game to use only 1 core with this. I haven't had any problems since then.

Due to the times when the crashes occurred and map I was using I can rule out the voxel debris and Tiberium curentus. I'm 99% sure my mixes are fine, I only just rebuilt them and I don't use any Firestorm files at all (I'm using TO). I'm more swayed to think this is one of the problems SJ mentioned, the reason why is I would get freeze issues with the original Tiberian Sun, though I only played it a few times on this computer.
