G'day. I've been having some annoying issues trying to get newly added overlays to show in FinalSun and even original TS overlays I've just replaced with a new image. I've tried everything from adding the file in the correct ecache / temperat / isoxxx and then even added them internally to TibSun.mix but I keep getting the error in FinalSun where they show as numbers rather than the actual image. I've attatched an image of how the Nod Walls look in FinalSun (they appear fine ingame).

Yup, this is a persistent problem I've seen in other mods before. I don't think there's a fix, nor do I have any idea what causes it. I can only assume it's similar to the issue where replacing the Nod SAM Site turret's image causes FinalSun to freeze (see TS:Retro).

Btw, anyone have any clue on what the "0x1a" or similar tags mean?

I know for a fact that if you have opened and saved the overlay SHP in SHP Builder, this is the result you're gonna see in FinalAlert/FinalSun.

Does not matter. Happens regardless of the compression setting you've chosen.

How did mods such as DTA remedy this problem?

By using other software than OS SHP builder.

Bittah found a way by afaik setting a certain compression for the overlays when saving them as SHP (though could be also a certain XCC Mixer version used during conversion)

So you should ask Bittah where's the problem and how to fix it

To be a bit clearer for people who have the same problem, XCC conversion fixes this, there must be a bug in SHP Builder when it comes to overlay and tem files. I simply converted the file to PNG frames and then back to shp via XCC Mixer, thanks to Bittah Commander for helping me out with this.

I've been looking for this fix everywhere. Nice info. Thank you Morpher and Bittah. Wink

Edit: Damn, I must be trying this the wrong way. It doesn't seems to work. Sad

I converted shp to PNG frames via XCC Mixer and then covnerted them back to a shp file with XCC Mixer (it obviously I had to rename it from .shp to .tem after the conversion. Then worked perfectly, no idea why SHP Builder doesn't work though, maybe Banshee needs to make an nice update Smile.

can you upload 2 identical overlay SHPs/TEMs, where one is created with SHP-Builder and not working inside FS and another created with XCC Mixer that works inside FS?

Maybe there is just some kind of header set wrong inside the shp, thus FinalSun is unable to read them correct.

Just open any working overlay SHP in OS SHP Builder and click save. I tried doing that myself as well and then comparing the differences, but there's too many differences for me to be able to tell exactly which of those is keeping it from working in FS. If you already know where to look however, you might be able to figure it out.

Uploaded 2 shps in this zip, they have different file sizes, so I guess perhaps there is a difference in compression. (They SHOULD be indentical).

(Hooray something attatched for a change!)
