simple question, can an ion storm lightning bolt be invoked by
a weapon or warhead animation ?

(not to invoke storm, I know thats impossible, just the bolt animation, even single hit would be nice #Tongue)

If you're looking to create an Ion Storm bolt then it can and can't be done. The ones you see ingame during an IonStorm are generated randomly by the game itself and can't be made to appear via a weapon or warhead, you can use map triggers to make single bolts strike specific waypoints. Other mods have recreated Ion Storm bolts via making a shp of lightning bolts (some are cut out of screenshots of Ion Storms) and placed it in Warhead animation lists. I believe some of the older style mods do this so maybe look their way for ideas.

Trivia fact, the same class and code that handles lasers also does the lightening strikes!

^^^you mean no transparency. They do glow in that way, that they have always the same color and brightness, regardless of the map lighting setting. Wink

btw, don't you guys find odd that some things are only available via map triggers/scenes and not by "invoke" with some weap/anim (like meteor strike) ? Smile

no, because if i would have the full control over the source code like WW, i would also hook several things right into the engine, instead of adding extra routines to read, check and use the ini values.

And taking a screenshot of a lightning bolt and turning it into an SHP, is a pretty good workaround, though i would make completely new ones with higher detail as the engine rendered ones aren't that pretty actually.

And meteor storms can be done via art.ini anims/debris and a weapon as well. Wink
