Remake the allied conyard yourself here
Subject description: 3dsmax tutorial
Here we go, a wall of text under the words: how to nearly remake the allied con yard from RA2.
Let's start by making a box with 15x30x15 parameters (Length x width x height)
Convert to editable poly; make it look like the thing here in this pic here:
Make a second box (25x15x40 is what I used) and apply the "bend" modifier by 90 degrees.
(you must have some segs for this to work).
Move the second box above the first one, select them both.
Now copy and resize them a bit like the second one in the pic below.
Copy the stuff and rotate it (or mirror it) to look like the stuff at the pic a few lines
Make a Chamfer Box (55x60x68 and fillet doesn't matter but I used
Fit it in the thing (I also used edit poly to modify the edges).
With edit poly, Inset the front faces and extrude the result by -3.5
Make a small box to fit between the sides and the roof, this should have a remap color, see the real building SHP for reference.
Copy that box and scatter its copies just like the real building.
N.B: there is an error with the number of remap boxes shown here.
Make a chamferCyl (I used 20x85 and fillet was 8 with fillet segs 3); this will be the two fans
Convert that to edit poly and choose the roofing, extrude by -5
Copy the thing to make the body of the other fan, now you need a fan, make one if you can, am not teaching super n00bs here, but if you want to learn this, ask for it.
Be cool and do the little remaps on the roof and place the fan where it belongs.
Make something like the pic below; you might be not so experienced with such things so here is how I made that:
First I made a rectangle (spline), then an arc, i worked around attaching them together, and I used the modifier "surface"
I went to "create -> geometry -> AEC extended" and chose railing, then I used "select railing path" selecting the spline, and then I modified the railing.
Here is the result so far, notice that the stairs from the real building are messing, so I'll skip them for now.
I'll let the pic here illustrate its self, but since it's too vague, i'll explain:
The wire frame thing is the red remap able "thing" in the background of the real building.
Now if you look at the real building, the crane is obviously a tube for the base and a Cylinder for the main body, the crane itself have three main parts which start with a cylinder, but the rest is too complex.
So I chose not to model it as of yet, let's make the Ground, it's a plane, in the top view, select the most north-eastern vertex, chamfer it until satisfactory, jump south and select the vertex in the middle (the 3d to me), chamfer by about 20, that should give two vertices and one useless one, remove the useless one, then move the vertices left, until satisfactory of course.
Be cool and do the rest of these details yourself, now the barrels can be a basic cylinder with a good material, or an awesome real model, there are boxes behind the crane too.
Now go look at the real thing, specifically at the buildup anim, in front of the door, there is a rectangle which happens to be a separate part, it's easier than having to Photoshop it in the plane's map, there are also two rails, these details are important, so you have to make them all look good.
About the crane, I'll just say this, to make the crane arm and it's part, you start with a box, edit poly, scale down the front face, go to vertex mode, connect two corners only on each side (do this only at the sides),now select the new faces, inset then extrude, congrats.
Now make a cylinder, edit poly, and select the second ring of vertices and the ring before last and scale bigger on both the Z and X axis,
For the crane hand, a box, extrude its sides and lower them, extrude again and lower more.
Still the crane misses the screws that attach it to the ground.
If you followed the tutorial, congrats, you just got a near thing to the allied conyard.
If you have any questions no matter how simple they are, feel free to post here.
The reason I made this is an attempt to give those RA3 modders a hint on how to make the allied conyard.
You can have my primitive model too, it'd be nice if you credit me for this, but am not forcing you to do so. Last edited by Kcirevam on Thu Jun 16, 2011 7:09 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
I'm quite sure you're not getting a custom rank cause there are a lot other modellers that can do this tutorial too.
Btw, it is still a nice tut. Good job. _________________

I'm sorry, but I'm not impressed. I can see it useful as a practice run for a beginner, but no more. Certainly not title worthy.
However, sharing knowledge is worth applauding. You just should have refined it before posting. Do continue to improve your work, it can turn into something good. _________________ "It's got that Droke style to it!" QUICK_EDIT

I did that tutorial for a friend, i shared it so his other friends see it here, instead of chit-chatting for an hour for them to get the job done half right, if you didn't like it, many others did so, and who forced you to be impressed?, I myself aren't impressed. _________________ Also known as superluigi949 and SuperMario949.

If a one of you moderators liked this, can you please give me a custom rank?
There are many others (me too) who want a custom rank and all of them have contributed more than a single simple tutorial and for a newbie like you, who just registered yesterday, it's quite overconfident to ask for something like that.
The tutorial is a good start, but
-it's not detailed enough to teach a newbie how to model it (there are far too big steps and you should also go more in detail how to work with the special tools like chamfer, extrude etc; maybe also concentrate on a certain CAD program like 3dsmax, C4D, blender)
-it doesn't shows anything new for experienced modelers
-the result model is inappropriate for any 3D game, due to the huge amount of redundant faces and the way too many used polygons. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings

As I said in my previous post, this tutorial was meant to stop people from asking me to teach them such a small job, it's for my friends as I said, the only reason i posted it here was to make a head start, if you didn't like it then surely others have, and am not waiting for "thank you" to be said.

Show me a single experienced modeler having made the same building, or even a tutorial like this.

This still resembles the real building, and it does fit for RA3. _________________ Also known as superluigi949 and SuperMario949.

Well, making this tut is not worth a custom rank. If you want to make a tutorial on buildings you need more than just 6 pieces. They could show texturing. Sorry Droke, I wouldn't have thought it that good for beginners. You've shown me more with less when it came to C4D.

This person didn't show how he moved the vertices or edges to make the shapes. And if your friends keep asking you to show them how just email them this instead of posting it up.
Giving help is nice, I posted something up some time ago on how to convert TS/FS terrain to RA2/Yuri....can I have a custom rank?
They I have a post in a thread on here about a book that was aimed at using 3DMax for gaming. It discusses extruding, bridging, lighting, making planar. Maybe you should look at the book. It shows more. _________________ I am authorized to send out the TMP Studio, PM ME IF YOU WANT IT And check this out, these were sent to me for help with terrain and zdata help along with TMP Studio/Builder

OK, lesson learned, do you think i should upload a video?, won't that be better?, or is it that most of you have a low speed connection that i should show every move in every aspect?, i currently am making the soviet con yard, so i think you (Nikademis Von Hisson) should tell me how to compose it, PM it, I don't want to get embarrassed.

What's the name of the book?, is it a free E-book?.
Also do you think i should Re-write this tutorial?. _________________ Also known as superluigi949 and SuperMario949.

Free isn't better i know, but if it was free, it'd be better, a counterpart thing.
Am glad it's an ebook, even though i had to pay a 6 hours work worth cash. _________________ Also known as superluigi949 and SuperMario949.

To model the same building (which is ugly and simple shaped imo) isn't very creative and many experienced modelers rather prefer to model something good, new, following their own design and ideas. (i exclude sandbox here, as Gangsters TS remakes are incomparably better than the original and the TS buildings are cool in the first place) _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings

Meh, whaaat ever, I don't see the allied conyard there, but I do see a lot of tutorials, non of them immediately touched making a building that came from RA.
However, Thank you, i was looking for such a site, now i can properly animate my biped. _________________ Also known as superluigi949 and SuperMario949.

Of course are most tutorials generally held. Why should they concentrate on the tiny faction of C&C modders.

--4StarGeneral did the Allied CY, iirc.
--If that model isn't the one in Invasion Confirmed, then DaFool made this one too.
--Not to mention the RA2 mods for Generals (such as this one), which also had the Allied CY.
--Also, the Ra2 mod (Condition Red) for RA3 has the Allied CY for the same reason as the RA2 mod for Gens.
--Apocalypse Rising, for Renegade, probably has/will have the Allied CY.
And that's mostly just me listing remakes for TCs on other engines, I'm ignoring most of the ones people have done for shits and giggles while practising techniques (I'm pretty sure I modelled the Allied CY to get the hang of cutting shapes out of existing geometry, among other things).

this site is for 3d max....it has bone rigging, vehicles, animation. it deals with 3 dmax stuff and is very usefully.

While the tutorial might be interesting, your attitude sure isn't. While it is true there aren't that many 3D modellers on this forum, it doesn't mean you can act like an ass. And before you complain, I'm working on a total conversion mod where all models are made by me: link
If you change your attitude, you are very welcome here, as this place lacks 3D modellers. QUICK_EDIT

At least make a good looking one for a tutorial, I mean the base is completely unmeasured and screwy, "fence" is a complete mess, where's the piece for the allied logo? Crane's too short, boxes hilariously aren't square, back pipes bend into the building? I could go on about it, but I mean, there's already a ton of this VERY building out there already, couldn't you have done a tutorial of something, idk. Different?
And not to mention, modifiers and the like are shortcuts. Want a 90 degree angled quartersphere? Just take apart a cylinder. That way you can edit little details onto it or something. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
