I have been trying to make a preview of a map and the program in this topic does not help

http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=431805#431805

Now with a blank map sized 215 by 200 it works, but when I try using a map with custom tiles it doesn't. I tried various theaters and no dice. Is there another way to make a preview?

well you could use "CNC Map renderer" to generate a jpeg of the map, then i believe there's another program which u can download, "can't remember its name" that converts jpegs into a :

[PreviewPack]

Code which you can place directly in map file, thus getting a perfect jpeg image as map preview.

I remember using the program years ago so I don't recall whats its called, but I can provide you a link to map renderer if you don't already have it.

You forgot to set the colors for the radar on the tiles.

A fact about C&C Map Renderer (any version with a GUI atleast): it won't read expandmd files - only ones without md suffix. I've had better success using the older versions with GUI though, despite this flaw.

The tool does not really seem to be geared towards rendering anything but maps with vanilla game assets so might take quite bit of fiddling around to get it render your custom stuff.

Another, and possibly the simplest way to make the map preview (i.e the minimap picture) is by using FinalAlert preview generation (for which you need to do what DJBreit described above, plus this method does not quite work in optimal way with overlays like gems etc.) or make one by hand and use XCC Mixer to convert it to PreviewPack data (which is what you need to do eventually with Map Renderer too). IIRC this XCC Mixer conversion does not quite work on all versions, can't remember which ones do and don't work.

Thanks you two. I was given a way to make a preview, but I will try both of your suggestions and see which works best.

Sorry, my bad. That's what you get when you get online using an outdated phone. Laughing
Fixed. Wink
