I'm not sure if I should or not. Even I am an advocate of "everything that can be modded for YR/RA2/TS has already been modded", but now with the news update, I'm not sure where I stand here or not.

So as these stories go, I was working quite hard on Modding for several years...I started with TibEd, but recently moved onto the old "by hand" methord.

Anyways, skipping forwards some time, my most recent one started out on Revora. That topic can be found here -

http://forums.revora.net/topic/83060-ra2-subfactions-mod-working-title/

I should note I was preparing to move here - I was mostly cleaning up, getting ready to take a few screenies of a more recent build (I have screenies, but they're of far older builds, thus invalid due to date - they can be seen in that thread).

It's base concept is awfully similair to "YR: The Generals". I'm not going to call foul and say I stole his idea, or he stole mine - I think this is a case of coincidence and bad luck.

So why bring this up? Well, it's like I keep hitting my head against a brick wall tbh. I mean I go one way, people would call it an MO clone. I continue the way this goes forwards, and because others have beaten me to it...well, you get the picture.

I've taken the best measures I can to avoid plagerism and copying from the notebooks of others, but now it seems this has happened.

I don't mean to sound like a whiner. I don't mean to stop FQ from working (I'm sure it's coincidence, and he has more clout anyway).

But I don't think I can carry on, and give back as much as I've taken from PPM.

So without trying to sound too whiny about it...do you think I should carry on what I'm doing? Or would it just be better to throw in the towel at this point and admit no one cares?

I told you at Revora not to worry about similar concepts. Unless you're stealing everything another mod has, there's always room for more that might do something in the same way.

He's Beowulf on Revora, also know as Fenring. I don't really see the issue of similar mod ideas such as ZH generals, as long as you make the mods quality and gameplay your own it will be distinguishable.

I'd say that you should work on a unique story. "Subfactions mod" seems pretty generic and people don't look to play a generic mod typically.

Another thought, I never really liked "FutureTech" there has to be more creative names out there.

It's not uncommon for 2 mods to be similar in ways. Just add your own style and feel to it and it will be fine. I say keep going.

Ah, a man of multiple names I see.

Trust me, I'm trying my hardest to do just that.

The name actually has changed, but the thread is old - it's not been updated in a while, so there's no new information - including the new name.

Like most names out there, I'm TERRIBLE with names. It's probably my one creative flaw. I'm actually an adverse (but fair) critic when it comes to RA3. It's my least favourite game in the series, but there are some things I like about it.

Sadly, like most (if not all) of the names in this mod, it has unfortunately stuck. I've considered a namechange if only to avoid confusion with the group from RA3, as the two are indeed differant. Same time, the Subfactions are also changing, and even the Yuri ones are being planned on the side.
the two most likely to be changed around (or renamed) right now are the Soviet Ministry of Science and the Allied Special Operations Command Battalion choices.
Counterpoint, how often do mods that go all-out and change everything up, or do total conversions, get released? Not saying you're wrong, I like mods that can do something entirely new, but is the effort worth it for it to never leave the work in progress section and then die because the guy got bored of it?

such is modding. most want their idea to come to fruition. Few are willing to work with others to get other's ideas done.

To be fair, I DO listen to suggestions and criticism. Critcism is good.

Yes, but you work on YOUR mod, not others, correct? My point stands. Almost all of us are guilty of it at some point or another, myself included.
