Modding Handbook and Teachers?
Subject description: Anyone?
I found it hard to know where to start if you were new to modding RA2 with or without YR Expansion.
So my idea is...why don't expert/professional modders make a fully downloadable modding handbook for newbies? This might ease up some common problems in making a mod for RA2 and how to fully modify the game's engine using various patches with suggested and optional tools for each specific works.
Also, since its a little slow and cost up too much time uploading to YouTube and its not that so interactive, I suggest using LiveStream.com. With LiveStream.com, professional modders can teach newcomers live and interactively without taking up too much time worrying about the upload speed because...there's no upload needed at all.
Those are just an idea but i hope someone will truly appreciate and take time to help others to mod the game also feel free to post your comments in this topic
I know how does it feel when you don't know where to start from the ground-up, even all of us started from the same thing and yes, I am a newbie in modding _________________
There is a handbook for that. It's called Deezire's RA2 INI Editing Guide. While there are errors, it's still full of relevant and useful information. I still use it quite often, especially for AI related material. _________________ KGR | AT

That pretty much it and frankly most people are busy with their lives than have time to spend to guide at livestream and describe every don't do thing and there are so many of them that even talented modders run into them as game engine is sensitive yet randomly tolerant of mistakes.
Deezire's guide is best for basics and read all the tutorials on this forum to learn do specific things. QUICK_EDIT
Well tutorials still exists, and so does a community that helps others within the community. I learned most of my modding through map modding, which has a lot of crazy things involved with it as well. Most of the community had to learn the hard way, but that's because with RA2 that's about the best way to learn anyways. "At least in my humble opinion."
The community is small and the best your gonna get to interactive help is pming on ppm and becoming good friends with other modders in the community. Some might even have skype or messenger etc as well.
Of course this help usually comes with some kind of price, like all friendships of give and take. If you can ask them for help, so can they, and if you ignore them, chances are they won't help you. Some people need ini checkers, some need map makers, some need play testers, some people just need to rant or chat, some like to brainstorm ideas together, some need artists, or some just like to play some ra2 when they are bored, really lots of modders like having other modders they can ask for help. When ppm isn't fast enough for some, they turn to having messenger or other such programs for fast help.
And of course tutorials do exist which are made by the community. And heck if you know a modder who is good at one particular thing your interested in learning to do. And no tutorial exists yet for the subject, some modders might be happy to make or at least share their knowledge of it with you. Being asked by someone how to do something, this can definitely inflate and ego and make a boring mundane project a fun one.
Asking for someone to make an entire book on modding, which is how your thread comes out to be is unrealistic and akin to asking someone to drop their entire life to start compiling tutorials here and there and making it into a how to Book. This will just be a waste of time. Most polite modders will stress to you the value of the resources we already have within our small community, while others might point out how hard such a project would be in order not to insult your request.
The community is so small it would be a massive undertaking to make such a book, or even worse live-streaming help. Worse the use of such a book would be limited, and potentially outdated as new process and methods are added to modding ra2.
Further RA2 is simple to mod at its outer layers, but more complex as you try to do more in the game within the inner layers. This helps people get into modding and slowly learn it properly because they stress the basics before they try to do more advanced things. If you show them the true undertaking and size of a ra2 project can be from start to finish, people might just plain quit before they even start. Even though they could have slowly gotten into it and learned everything and become an excellent modder.
I can only say I oppose such a manual for RA2 as its truly a way to stupefy the community. "I'm not trying to be rude to you or your thread, but this is how i honestly feel on the subject." _________________ Grab my Map Logic Expansion Pack 5.2 here!
Adds random weather patterns into maps.
More disabled navalyards.
Preplaced Neutral buildings.
Additional new features.
I suggest doing a simple little INI mod with tibed, seeing all the tags and an organized overview really helps when you don't know the INIs and the games mechanics that good. http://www.tibed.net/tibed1/ you may encounter some bugs and it writes a bit messy into the INI but in most cases it works out. You can also edit manually and thenuse the "import current changes" feature to load them up into tibed.
oh and don't expect to get much love from others when they find out you use tibed. _________________ Free Tibed!

EDIT: Composed the ode to Mod E-N-C, so that was a waste of an hour. Those Village people are an odd bunch.

I said, young man, just won't you click on this link?
I said, young man, 'cause you're in a new hobby
There's no need to be worried.
Young man, there's a place you can go.
I said, young man, when you're short on the know.
You can search there, and I'm sure you won't fail

No man does it all by himself.
I said, young man, put your pride on the shelf,
And just go there, to the Mod E-N-C
And they'll help you for no fee.

Please do not use tibed because u will get zero help. Using notepad or notepad++.
Modding is 25% knowledge 25% copy n paste and 50% experimentation. Also quite frankly most experienced modders are busy with their projects or real life tasks. We already have a mod book - its called the internet and its associated resources for cnc modding as mentioned by users. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
^Thus, searching the whole world wide web is stressful but might help and I use Notepad++, I've tried tibed before and its freakin' messy and unstable _________________

Orac, please post that up as a ModEnc news as D's own request, I don't want to plagarize. _________________ "If you didn't get angry and mad and frustrated, that means you don't care about the end result, and are doing something wrong." - Greg Kroah-Hartman
