Well yeah, I'm interested to hear everyone's occupation, i.e. what you do for work/study. Just to get a bit of a scope at how diverse the population here actually is.

I myself study Environmental Ecology at University of Helsinki, which is the oldest and largest university here, and has the widest range of disciplines available. Simply put, I study human effects on the environment, how to repel and repair the damage. I've always been keen on this matter and hope to make a difference some day. Yea, I may sound bit like a hippie world-healer, but I try not to be a stereotype. One option is to go to politics with this knowledge, but there are numerous others. I haven't decided yet.

My weeks mostly consist of lectures (consisting of various subjects, for example we have genetics, ecotoxicology, physics, microbiology, organic chemistry...and a lot of others) with a few lab days (depending on the period), where we study various chemicals, mostly from ecotoxicological point of view. We also have field trips/courses few times a year (not often enough in my opinion).

If you're interested in this subject, go forth and ask me more about it.

Now that I've bored you with mine, it's your turn.

well currently i'm working with my dad as, plainly put, a laborer. but most of our work consists of building new furniture and installing it. Our work generally takes us to new grade schools here in the States, typically in Ohio though we have gone to other states, were we get to unload all the kid desks, chairs, teacher desks, book cases, library shelving, metal storage shelving, computer tables and then put them together and place them according to blue prints and if needed anchor them into walls. Another common thing is offices be it your basic desk with a return or U shaped Desk and all the other accessories that go with them.
Though we have also done remodeling work in homes such as painting, tiling, and various other things that go along with that. Office cubicles is another big thing we do and we have also done a couple out door patios for a few people.
Eventually though I plan on going to a university. However, due to not enough money at this point and the fact i'm not all that sure in what I exactly want to study and use in a future 'career'. So I haven't gone yet, as to not waste money and then decide I want to do something else and spend more time in a University then i'd need if I just took the time out to make a decision. Though I have always been keen to the Genetics area of Biology and would like to study that more indepth than the amount I got to in highschool. But when I look to where that could take me for jobs afterwards I'm not too enthusiastic about it. lol

I'm currently working four different jobs, two of which are full-time and the other two are just bits on the side to get additional money.

My family run a large Pub in Birmingham, which myself, my older brother and my Mom all work in. There I am a full time Bartender and the head Chef. Not fantastic work, but it has a lot of bonuses that you'll not find in any other job (Home just up the stairs, beer just down the stairs etc.).

The other two jobs I work are for a customer of the aforementioned pub, they are not full time and it's just something I do when I have nothing else to do or just want a bit of extra money. I'm either placed as a Security Guard watching over a construction site during the early hours of the morning or I work on the site itself as a Construction Worker. The pay is good, but working so many jobs is obviously tiring, so it won't be long before I quit.

I'm soon to own my own personal pub license once (if) I pass the PL Examination next month which will do wonders for finding future jobs, or if I ever decide to open my own place (which I doubt).

I am a hard worker, it feels and pays very good.

I go to a high school where I study all kinds of subjects like mathematics, Finnish, English, Swedish, biology, geography, philosophy, psychology etc. I'm going to specialize in mathematics, physics and chemistry aswell as most likely biology, and after the high school I'll most likely apply to an university and start studying something related to programming (it cannot be studied in the high school where I'm currently in).

Go for it if you want to #Tongue

Still highschool, 10th grade. Got another 2 years . Wanna study Product Design after that, not sure if here or wanna test myself and try to study in Germany/Austria/UK. US is a bit too far away from anyone I know, Canada has a poor educational system IMO. However, I'd work in the US.

Ah yes, it's really a privilege to be able to study for free here (well you have to pay a tiny fee each year, but it's really marginal compared to the student allowance). Still, you have to spend pretty much all your savings from summer jobs or work part-time, unless you want to live an ascetic life...

Having the second semester on a Computer Science and Engineering BSc... not much to said about that except that my classmates consider me as a yeti/ufo/robot or anything else but not human, due to being too thinking along with PCs, lol.

Also I have a long-time affiliation to the local astronomy (since 2006) so when I don't mod, I either learn or assist them. I even have my own telescope. OK, it's just a 70mm x 700mm Kepler, but whatever, most people dunno the secrets of the starred night. #Tongue

Well, For a few years I was a soldier in the United States Army, serving as a crew chief and mechanic aboard CH-47F Chinooks and UH-60 Black Hawks. I deployed to Camp Taji with the 1st Cavalry Division (1st Air Cav Brigade) in support of OIF 09-10. I was awarded an Army Commendation Medal for valorous service during a firefight in October of 2009. I returned home in April of 2010. I ended my service in August of the same year.

I now attend Art Institute of Dallas part time studying in Media Arts & Animation. I'm a full time student at the University of North Texas studying Aerospace Engineering, and work full time at Lockheed Martin working with a team on several projects, most of them classified.

All in all, I have a pretty busy life. Anything you see posted (such as my hotel design in the Media Hut) is usually something I'm working on for my MAA portfolio.

- I work as a Locksmith; Basically I go and unlock/repair/install people's locks. This can be anything from a desk lock, car lock, garage door lock, front door lock, business, everything. I really enjoy using power tools and seeing how happy people get after I finish a job. Get some RANDOM and awesome things happening doing this line of work.
- I am also a freelance graphic designer, and have found many jobs through being a locksmith. I have done jobs for airports, medical marijuana clinics, cosmetologists, OTHER locksmiths I know, and all sorts of other misc jobs.
- School; (didn't enroll this semester [maybe thats why I have so much free time...]) Been going for business management, graphic design
- A lot of my free time I spend at the junk yard or on ebay, selling stuff I got at the junk yard. I have a lot of fun ripping apart cars.
- Also spend a lot of my free time doing random art, that doesn't really make me any money, but is fun. *cough*SHP's*cough*

Right now, I'm a freelance landscaper and IT technician, but most of the time, I'm an IT support monkey. Nothin' fancy, but it doesn't matter cause it's fun.

Second semester, mathematical information technology at University of Jyväskylä, Faculty of Information Technology. Just what it says on the can, information technology from the perspective of natural sciences. It's actually separate from the field of 'Computer Science' as it's practiced here, 'Computer Science' here being more business-oriented. In that respect, what I study is probably closer to what 'Computer Science' is internationally.

MIT (Mathematical information technology, not the university) students here get four specialization options, educational technology/teacher education, software technology/engineering, computational science/simulation & optimization, and mobile systems. I personally specialized in software technology/engineering, after a tough choice between mobile systems and it. In future I would probably like to work on the field of web software development and web development in general.

Or take a student loan. Which nobody wants to do. Either way, hurrah for no tuition fees in Finland. Sucks to be you with the rent costs etc. at Helsinki and nearby areas, though #Tongue.

Tell me about it... It's cheaper here in Lahti, but I'll be moving to the capital sooner or later.

Meh, I'll give it a shot.

As some of you may (or may not) remember, I've been trying to get into the Air Force academy for the longest ztyping time. Since 2009, if I'm correct.

Well, long story short, that hasn't worked out, so I talked to the Marines and actually enlisted Tuesday of last week. Because of the drawdown and budget cuts, I won't actually be leaving for basic training until October 22nd, and I won't be finding out my MOS until June or July, because that's when all the new jobs open up for 2012. Because I can't actually choose a specific MOS for the Marines (only a general field, like infantry, armor, intelligence, etc), I can only pray I get 0311 (Rifleman) or 0317 (Scout Sniper).

But, my test scores were so high, I can almost literally do anything, provided that there are job openings. The only fields I'm not eligible for are aviation mechanic, electronics maintenance, combat vehicle repair, cryptologic linguist, and Marine Corps Security Forces. But, even then, I can get half of those fields with waivers and more tests.

Until then, I work for Depot USA. We sell military and law enforcement gear, so when all is said and done, I can forget that standard-issue shit and buy the quality gear. #Tongue

I've been meaning to post in this thread for a while, I guess now is a good time to do so.

Since the end of January, I'm already a graduated (licensed) biochemist; well I only have to get my professional title, to do so I need to finish my thesis, which is what I'm currently doing.

Right now, I'm working in the University of Valparaíso, doing research on infectious pancreatic necrosis virus (IPNV).
This virus affects several species of fish, however the most important target would be salmon, specially in relation to aquaculture, were my country (Chile) either on first or second place (in 2007 Chile was second with 31% of the farmed salmon production, meanwhile Norway had 33%; I don't know the actual values, but I know that Norway was, at least temporally, in second place after a bad epidemic of this virus).

This is the main reason I've been offline mostly, either reading for my thesis, or doing some simple experiments, mostly quantitative retro transcriptase polymerase chain reaction also know as q-RT-PCR (separated the links since Wikipedia doesn't have a single article for it).
It's nothing really complicated so far, the hard part would be the analysis of the data obtained... I guess.
