Project 1.06 finally updates, more than a year after the previous release. Combining the classic exe hacking with the external CnC-DDraw dll gives this new release a huge list of new features.

Read the ModDB release article for a full overview of the new features.

Here's a quick overview of the major additions:

  • Free resolution control; you can play in any resolution you want
  • Videos can be stretched without black horizontal lines in them
  • Videos can be stretched to fullscreen in higher resolutions
  • A windowed mode is available
  • Better support for maps with less than 6 starting points
  • A new configuration tool combining the settings of both CnC-DDraw and the game itself into one set of easy options.

Some of the smaller features:

  • A beep is now played when receiving a message in multiplayer
  • The radar minimap is no longer zoomed in by default
  • All game fonts have been updated to correct errors
  • Colour errors in the stretching of the Nod map selection screens have been fixed

The new patch can be downloaded at the Project 1.06 website.
The full release notes can be found here.

Can this be turned off? I'd rather want the videos to be centered on the screen, and not appear on the corner. Likewise, stretched videos look ugly.

Generally, all added features that aren't strictly fixes can be turned off, yes. (The only one that can't is "boxed" 640x480 resolution, but that can be faked by setting the game to 640x400, "stretching" it to the custom resolution of 640x480, and using "Center" as stretch filter.)

But Crim, you have to realize, the videos are never centered. They're played in the upper left corner. I can't fix that. What happens now is that the cnc-ddraw addon (also responsible for the windowed mode) detects when only the upper left 640x400 corner is used, indicating a video, score screen or map animation scene is being played, and stretches it to fullscreen. The change is completely done by the external dll.

So it's either in that corner, or stretched to fullscreen. If you want centered, I'd say, bug hifi about it so he could add it as option in CnC-DDraw.

Anyway, I've played with the stretched vids for a while now, and in combination with the fix to remove the black lines in the videos, it really doesn't look bad at all. I'd say, give it a chance before being so negative about it Confused

Also note, the C&C95 videos are already stretched from DOS 320x200 anyway #Tongue

From my experience with Red Alert, which also automatically stretches videos to fullscreen, the videos look horribly underdetailed, and black stripes appear horizontally in the video.

Don't worry, I will give it a go later.

^ Please, at least read my posts. These horizontal black lines are gone. It's one of the new features Wink

I did read your post. Nowhere did I say anything about those stripes in TD. Please, at least read my posts.

Still, mentioning the existence of those black lines in RA1 is hardly useful after I said I removed them in C&C95.

On a related note, the same edit I made into a game setting can be applied as a hack RA95. To remove the black lines in RA1 v3.03, change the bytes at address 1B24D0 in RA95.dat to B8 02 00 00 00 Wink
(In fact, RA actually uses this setting; its map selection screens are stretched in 2 directions)
