Enjoying the new Codex, Dutchy?
I'm sad to see Pariahs gone, they were one of my favourites. Flayed Ones still in though, so all is not lost. Last edited by Orac on Sun Dec 04, 2011 7:52 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

So yeah, this is the reason why I haven't done/haven't visited much lately: I've started my own Warhammer 40k miniature army I had the idea for much longer, but there wasn't a shop in my city, nor did I know anyone who played it (except for some guys on the other side of the country). When the store opened, and I heard that the new Necron codex was coming up, I thought: why the hell not?
So far, this is what I have:
-Necron Overlord (HQ)
-Necron Warriors 12x (Troops)
-Necron Immortals 5x (Troops)
-Canoptek Scarabs 3x (Fast Attack)
-Annihilation Barge (Heavy Support)
I also acquired another Canoptek Scarab and an old Destroyer Lord which I still need to paint/repair (the guy I got them from didn't use them anymore).
In the few battles I had I have only lost once, and that was against those annoying Death Company of the Blood Angels. They are good in the weakness of the Necron: melee.
Also, nice to see that I'm not the only one with an army Hassan_2030 QUICK_EDIT

How are you painting these, btw?
I've been painting up my brother's Tau, you see, and you seem to be managing to paint your stuff a fair bit quicker than I'm managing QUICK_EDIT

Orac, are you really implying that there is more to Necrons than dumping them into vats of paint and then adding detail?
I jest, of course, since the new Necrons are not like the ones of old. So yeah, you're right, Dutchy is finishing them up rather quickly. And with good results. _________________ DUNK! QUICK_EDIT

OK... It's some Necrons.
Unexpected.
That's what the Techpriests said when a Necron warfleet teleported right above Mars.
Of course then they bum rushed into the Necron warship using any way of transportation they can find, overwhelming the Necron fleet and cutting it up for study. _________________ DUNK! QUICK_EDIT

First I use Chaos Black spraycan as a base. After letting that dry, I use Boltgun Metal to paint the whole model. After that, the red parts in Mechrite Red, and (again) Chaos Black for the weapons / other parts. Finally Scorpion Green for the eyes, some of the more unique Necron blades (Warscythes, Hyperphase swords, etc), wiring of Gauss weapons, and other parts I think it looks nice on. For the higher-ranked Necrons I sometimes use Shining Gold for the golden details.
As Gufu has properly mentioned: Necrons don't require that much work to look nice The hardest part is getting the Scorpion Green to look good, especially on the blades. I need to repaint those multiple times before it's actually permament green. Of course, I could use a darker green as a base before adding Scorpion Green, but I haven't tried that before.
As for the vehicles, it's a little different. I don't paint the whole model with Boltgun Metal, but leave them black, and use the Boltgun Metal for internal systems. To add more detail to the black, I use Adeptus Battlegrey. QUICK_EDIT

Oh so thats where the monolith originates from. May it have been you who made that public voxel? I unfortionatly forgot who it was, (and the maker to include his words but nvm).

Lol, me and voxels The only thing I ever released voxel-related was a remake of the TS Nod Laser. So no, I know nothing about any Monolith voxel QUICK_EDIT
I'd use white as a highlight on a different colour (perhaps one of the very subtly blue hues which citadel has been known to sell for a ridiculous sum ), rather than just using blocks of white - since it is indeed annoying to get right
(I had to freehand the 28 onto a few Guardsman shoulders for my little brother, that was no fun) QUICK_EDIT
Oh I'd love to put it ingame, but I'm not good with code, ever. Eventually I'll probably pull finger and do it, but not soon. That said, Dutchy, if you feel the urge to add it yourself you can have the models (Ghost Ark, Doomsday Ark, Tomb Blade, and Canoptek Altar).
The hardwired pilot idea was taken from a conversion (which seems to have since dropped off the face of the internet) because Necrons just look weird when they're sitting down, imo. I'm not closer to codex, so lore can jump in a ditch.
(I'm not trying to hijack your thread. But hey, if I was this would definitely be how I'd do it )
I like the glow you've got coming our of the back of the Ark, and the red scheme looks really good. Any particular reason for the red? Any personal army lore?
